The meat quality, smoke, and the bbq cook itself were all very good. However, the meat was incredibly bland... no seasoning. I ate there for lunch on Wednesday. Ordered, pork burnt ends, ribs, brisket, and one side. Sad and disappointing. Whoever prepped the meat for that day's smoking forgot to add any salt. Bummer that I wasted $63 on this.

Saw a lot of fairly good reviews on Matt's BBQ. So I had a hankering for some BBQ and decided today was the day I was gonna try Matt's. First off it's Mississippi Ave and unless your extremely lucky, your gonna end up parking anywhere from 1 to 4 blocks away. I got there about 30 minutes before they opened and found a parking 1 block away. I consider myself fortunate. I went to their website and placed my order 20 minutes before they opened. Got ribs, brisket and queso Mac n cheese. I walked to food truck which is located behind a pub and had a short wait till they opened. There was 1 person in front of me and he left shortly after making injuries about future orders. I was next. I had a very pleasant conversation with the gentlemen working there. They were congenial, friendly and dedicated to their food prep. They answered all my questions and we had a friendly banter for about 5 minutes till my order was ready.
So, I am a BBQ person. I've had the real deal in KC. Based on my experience I found the meat cooked excellent. The ribs and brisket were juicy, meaty and looked great. I found the flavor was not as pronounced as I was used to, hence the 4 stars instead of 5. The Mac n cheese was good but, I felt it could of had a little more zing to it. If your calculating price per person, I would its in the 20 to 25 range. Was I satisfied? Yes, I was. Would I go there again? Yes but I would have to have a hankering for BBQ and be on that side of town again.
Make no mistake, it IS good BBQ. Just needs a little personal tweaking to make it great FOR ME!

This was a must eat recommendation for my 1st time in Portland and it was amazing bbq. The most tender brisket I've ever had. Queso mac.and cheese was great and pork ribs were so tender. Loved it!

Nice pod. Wasn't our destination but took the opportunity to finally try Matt's after hearing great things for years. Only got the brisket burnt ends and they were outstanding. Pickles were awesome. Definitely will be back to do this place proper.

I loves me some good BBQ! This little food truck does not disappoint. Ordering is really easy on a tablet. They even have sign telling you how long the wait for your food is.
I had the chopped brisket, “it was overflowing”. On a fresh bun. I recommend the tangy mustard potato salad.
Being a “connoisseur” of queso, this one with fresh chips. Oh yeah! I’ll be back for more!
Their pickled cucumber and red onion. Yeah, they know what they are doing.
So trust! Look at the picture of the food people have posted. In person is even better.
Thank you gentlemen!
Well done!

Great BBQ. Revising a review form like eight years ago where I said it was great but not sure it was worth the long line. Thankfully the hype has been dialed down from the fever pitch of when they opened and it’s reasonable now. They may be the best BBQ in town. I also like Podnahs and Reverend’s.

We walked into a food court area while walking around the area. We like BBQ and decided to give Matt's BBQ in Portland OR a try. We have had BBQ in Arkansas, Texas, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Michigan, South Carolina, and Florida. So why not Portland??? The staff was helpful in explaining their menu and seemed friendly as we worked out our order. The food was excellent and more than the two of us could finish in one sitting. Overall, we were pleased with our choice and consider our experience a memorable one. Hey, if Guy Fieri and Triple D can stop in and eat at Matt's BBQ, why shouldn't we???

I’ve been coming to Matt’s for many years and they never disappoint. If you want the best bbq in Portland, this is where it’s at. (Botto’s is a close 2nd.) everything here is exceptional - great ribs, brisket, pork belly, etc etc etc. Amazing sauces. Always happy. Try their taco cart too!

Probably the best brisket in Oregon, but that’s not saying much. The brisket here is always tender, but lacks smoky flavor and is a bit watery. I suspect no one’s starting up the barrel smokers at 3am. And, my burnt ends came covered in sauce, which is a no-no. Good sides.

Great food. Cool food cart pod. Get there early though, some items all out quickly. But that's a testament to how good it is.
