The atmosphere and decor is awesomely eclectic, just as every McMenamins. The service from everyone was fantastic, and the place was not very busy for a late Saturday breakfast. Eggs were cooked well and had great flavor, as did the bacon which was extremely crispy. Espresso was good, and all items were served quickly. Prices were reasonable, so overall a great value for a quick small morning bite.

Cajun tots and a very solid burger. I personally like the low lighting and decorative glasswork on the bar. GF ordered a very pretty sangria, which she frequently orders at other places, she declared this one to be delicious.

Got the Queen Isabella pizza, which was very yummy. I recommend. Very nice atmosphere, sweet servers, and a good bread plate appetizer.Vegetarian options: There were several vegetarian options, but the menu was largely meat-based.

I can't say enough good things about this place. The food is so good. And more than that the staff is fantastic. We're in town visiting a dying family member at OHSU and the kindness and care we received from the staff at Hals just renewed my hope for humanity. They're great.

Grabbed breakfast after staying at Crystal Hotel the night before. I had the slabtown breakfast sandwich with a corpse reviver and a shrub. It was an absolutely perfect start to my day. Pork belly was exquisitely cooked and both drinks were precisely what I hoped for from each.

Started having brunch here a couple months ago. I cannot stay away from the French toast! Hands down the best in town. Yes I am a connoisseur and the service is great. You’re never in need of anything but also not bothersome. I’m just telling my peeps to meet there like it’s our hang out at this point. Yummy CARBS!!

We got stuck at this hotel during the ice storm January '24. Couldn't ask to be stuck in a better place. Under strenuous circumstances all the staff were friendly and helpful. The photo is of the Buffalo Billy Signature Cocktail. Fantastic!

Hal’s replaces the Zeus at this same location. Not sure why the name change, but Zeus had far and away the best food any Mcmenamins restaurant ever served.Hal’s wasn’t bad either, we ordered the squash ravioli that was very good, and the loaded tots which had a maple syrup glazed pork belly bits and a sauce that made these the best tots you’ve ever had. Both dishes were executed well enough that I’d return to try their other menu items. We also had a 6-beer sampler which as usual at McM’s had a couple winners, a couple mehs, and a couple failures. Notable winner is the best beer they make consistently year after year which is the Black Widow Porter. Sadly not always available at this location. (I think it’s made at one of their Salem locations so supplies are limited)The service was very good and friendly, typical for this location, but not company-wide which is well known by anyone who’s ever been to a Mcmenamins establishment.Overall a great experience, and I cannot wait to return to try more of their menu.Vegetarian options: Squash ravioli was very good.Parking: Crowded downtown street parking that you will never find. Look for a paid lot and be prepared to walk a few blocks. Drop your party off at the door so not everyone has to weave through the myriad homeless and the rain like you’ll have to.
