A absolutely must visit for vegans and meat-eaters alike. The vegan broth tastes nearly identical to a standard gumbo broth, and the vegan chicken and andouillie are absolutely delicious. I fear this place is gonna become a problem for my wallet.
Oh, and don't miss the banana pudding. It SLAPS

Absolutely phenomenal vegan gumbo. The broth was so flavorful, tasted so meaty. Just delicious! And the banana pudding was also outstanding, a really great treat. A perfect stop for vegetarians and vegans!

Food is richly flavored with southern inspired ingredients and spices. The shrimp and grits is sublime, and banana pudding like my mother in law used to make.
Service was very friendly and timely.

Start by saying I spent A LOT of my life in East Texas and the Gulf Coast. Good gumbo is hard to find up here in the Pacific Northwest. This is probably the first legit gumbo I've found. I got the regular with traditional gumbo base, andouille, shrimp, and crab. Go all out, why not? The price seemed expensive, until i got the bowl.
Literally half a crab in the shell, half a dozen huge shrimp, tons of sausage, okra, rice, perfect gumbo base.
Fingers coated in crab juice, mess all over the place, very very happy.
Worth every penny.
You want real gumbo? Go here.

Forget Red Lobster’s boiled seafood!!
If you really want a scrumptious seafood boil, this is the place to go!
I got the chef’s recommendation to try it out and it didn’t disappoint (loooove it when I am tired and I ask at a new place what dish makes them proud and they go: say less!)🙏🏾
I had just landed from Oakland and was feeling super tired, I got first an iced coffee with sweet cream that hit the spot!
Now, lemme tell you about the seafood boil😛 there were baby potatoes, corn on the cob, Andouille sausage, prawns and crab, perfectly seasoned and hot, basted in butter but not greasy, just flavorful and cooked to perfection 🥰
I liked it so much I came back again at the end of my trip and this time got their famous gumbo, spicy with tender pieces of chicken, sausage and shrimp over rice, be still my heart!!
The cart is conveniently placed next to a bar and I got to enjoy my food with a pint.
If you visit Portland or you are lucky enough to live close to this spot, this cart is a MOST!!!

Don’t advertise that you’re open till 1 on a Friday when you’re not.
Great spot in Cartside. Delicious gumbo, made to order. Not usually into okra, but they've got a secret to keep it from being slimy or overhard - always just right.
Even the small serving is pretty massive. Always piping hot, bold and bright (with a lemon wedge on the side) and really hits on a cold day. Super friendly owner/operator - always offers hot sauce (definitely tastes like a Louisiana hot sauce, but seems a little bit thicker than Crystal's?) and creole seasoning, always take him up on them: if you like things on the spicier end of the spectrum, these really deliver on getting the heat to your level (base is really flavorful, and has to appeal to a broad palate, right?)
Writing this on my third or fourth trip here.
Needless to say, I highly recommend this Portland treasure of Louisiana cooking. Good service, good food, and really a great price for the quantity you get- there's more than just mumbo to this gumbo.

We had the trinity and the nipsy hustle. Kudos to the chef and their pallet. Seasoning on point, flavors felt very harmonized. Definitely stood out as a food cart.
Delicious
Hey, there’s some places (like your website) that says you’re open until 2am. I came about 15 ‘til 1am & ordered my food. I thought the guy was upset to take my order, which made me confused because I thought I had still had 1hr & 15mins until close.
The food was delicious (I’ve come to learn, I like my Gumbo cold) & the Banana Pudding was even better.
I appreciate the guy taking my order, thought you guys should be aware of the confusion of when your business closes. Didn’t mean to come right at the end. Your product delivers. 🍲
