Their usual server was out sick so I had the pleasure of being taken care of by the owner of the establishment. He was extremely welcoming and even gave us an extra fillet of rockfish as he didn’t believe the first to be big enough. Everything was amazing and seasoned to perfection from the fish to the collard greens to the beans/rice and Mac & cheese. It’s a fairly new place, only opening last summer so the menu still seems to be shifting, but I will definitely be back and highly suggest checking Norma Jean’s out yourself!! <3

Both the catfish & rockfish we're delish. The owner was super nice came out & chatted with us for a while. It'd be easy to w walk right past this unassuming storefront. Don't! And make sure you try the sweet potato cornbread with honey butter when you're here. Yum.

Food was not edible, pictures don’t look like food served. False advertisement. My ribs were burnt black, tuff and tasted nothing but burnt char. Mac and cheese was old and not fresh very dried out like it had been rewarmed 10 times, the greens were full of thick stems, red beans and rice the rice was undercooked and crunchy and the beans were ice box cold in the middle this is how I know the foods not fresh but old and rewarmed. I sent the owner a message letting him know my disappointment thinking he would reach out and try to make this right but the message showed read with no response. Plus he went on face book to assassin my character because I said the food was not for me. He then follows and posts a threatening message on Facebook. Very unprofessional, false advertisement and does bad business with lack of customer service. I read the prior reviews and there have been a lot of unsatisfied customers.

The salmon was so spicy that it was unenjoyable. The mac n cheese was ok. I would not recommend this place but the staff is great!

Absolutely amazing place, quality food & very personable workers, they will go above & beyond to ensure your happiness. Truly felt like a blast from the past style... I moved here from Birmingham, AL by far hands down the best soul food in Portland I have had so far... Highly recommend.

Was a little disappointed. I ordered the blackened salmon with greens and Mac and Cheese. I had to send the Mac and Cheese back because it was cold.
The salmon was the tail end, and the fish was old tasting and tough. The collard greens/cabbage was too salty. No meat in the greens.
The oxtail gravy was very thick. The sauted vegetables was fresh and cooked perfectly.
First and last time visiting this restaurant.

Parking: Parking on the street.

I had the 35 dollar oxtale plate . I had the mac and greens and corn bread . The mac was dry n no Seasoning! The corn bread was no where close to sweet ! It's Hot water cornbread forsure ! I did enjoy the greens they defiantly left a taste in my mouth . The oxtail was tough did not fall off the bone . I wouldn't recommend this resurant to any one . They should add Yams to their menu when they get it together. The service was great tho .

I have wanted to give this place a try for months. Since they offer catering I’m planning for a wedding looking for some good Soul Food. Unfortunately this place was not it. I ordered the Smothered Oxtails dinner with greens, mac and cheese and an extra side of red beans and rice. The oxtails were flavorless, the brown gravy they added over the oxtails did nothing but make the meat wet. Because it too had a bland taste. Sides were okay with the exception of the red beans and rice. Didn’t taste like any southern style red beans and rice I ever had. With all this said I wouldn’t recommend this place. Go at your own risk.
