We couldn’t be happier with our wedding cake experience! From the beginning, the process was smooth and stress-free. We ordered their cake tasting box and were blown away by the quality and flavor—it made choosing flavors for our wedding incredibly hard (they were all so good!). We ended up selecting three different flavors for the big day, and all of them were a hit! Many people came back for seconds —it was that good.
I had been super anxious about someone having to pick up the cakes and drive them an hour to our venue in 100° heat. But the wedding cake representative assured me that the cakes would be fine—they're well-packaged and stable for transport. And they were right! Everything arrived perfectly. They held up beautifully for the rest of the night.
Every slice was absolutely delicious—moist, flavorful, and beautifully presented. We froze our leftover slices, and months later, they still taste just as good as they did on our wedding day (if frozen properly). The prices were very fair compared to other companies we looked into—especially considering how delicious the cake was. We’ll definitely be coming back to them for all our future cake needs. Highly, highly recommend!

I truly love this place however anytime that I am trying to order coffee or pastries at the counter. I generally feel like I’m being ignored. There could be up to three or four people working behind that counter, and they are literally too busy talking to each other to even look at me. Overall, the experience would be much better if staff would actually engage with the customer. Is it really so hard to acknowledge someone and let them know you will be right with them if you are busy?

The food was pretty terrible. The fondue mixture was offputting, grainy with an overpowering flavor. It got more distressing when you could’ve made fries in the pool of oil included in salmon salad. Never mind that the ravioli was undercooked and the chef clearly has stock in the pepper provider, as that’s the only thing I tasted. The marionberry cheesecake was made with chalk and the graham cracker crust was thick enough to be sold as OSB at Lowe’s. Although the crème fraiche and compote was an interesting idea.
Both my dining partner and I felt ill afterwards. So I mean, maybe a spot for entertaining you nemesis? But that may be a little too cruel.

Always delicious. You just can't improve on perfection, especially when dessert is involved at this level.❤️

Superb steak and eggs. Perfect medium rare with a crust. Eggs were a perfect over medium. Cubano benedict also great. The desserts are on an entirely different level than anywhere else in town. 10/10

Our wedding cake from Papa Haydn was absolutely perfect! It was not only beautiful but delicious—the ideal addition to our perfect day. Every bite was rich, flavorful, and clearly made with care. We received so many compliments from our guests!
If you're planning a wedding in Portland, I highly recommend Papa Haydn for your cake. They truly helped make our celebration even more memorable. 10/10 would recommend!

The patio is beautiful. It's an oasis for a little time away from reality while enjoying a little French Onion soup or one of many dessert delights.

Thank you Papa Haydn's and Amelia, our waitress. PH has always been a fabulous place for desserts. But tonight they made a 15 year old extra happy. (And the parents too). Thank you for accommodating such a large group and being so kind and excited in celebrating the teen years. Cheers!

We always stop here for dessert when we’re in town. The berry meringue cake is incredible — easily one of the best desserts I’ve had, and it’s become a must every visit. Service has always been excellent, attentive without being overbearing. Prices are steep (about $18 a slice), but the quality, presentation, and overall experience make it worth it. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a special dessert spot.

I’ll start by saying that I’ve been here a few times and they’re usually good. The dessert and drinks are good. However, it only takes 1 bad experience to mess it up. I came in on Sunday for dessert and was seated outside. After 10 minutes of not being helped, I asked the greeter at the front desk where our waiter was. She said he’d just left but they’d send someone else out to cover his section. A few minutes later, a waiter comes out and helps the table next to us, looks at us and goes back inside. We figured he’d come back out to help us; he came back out, offered the table next to us dessert but didn’t help us. Another waiter came out and again, spoke to the tables next to us and completely ignored us. We had waters and menus and were only 3 feet away from the other tables that were being helped. The restaurant wasn’t busy but we still wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt and wait a couple more minutes. After 20 minutes of not being acknowledged, we decided to leave. Even on our way out, we passed by 3 staff members who looked at us and said nothing. To be blatantly ignored like this was frustrating and belittling. I’d like to believe this was a problem of the servers they had on staff that evening (Sunday around 6pm) and not representative of them as a whole. I did speak to the manager on the way out and she was pleasant and apologetic. (Again, I do believe this was the fault of the two waiters who deliberately chose not to help us.) Nonetheless, it was a humiliating experience and I won’t be returning to this location.

THIS PLACE HAS RATS. I went in to eat the other day and saw one with my own eyes did some research and I am not the first to report this. Staff are also disgustingly rude. Go to A Cena Ristorante or Piazza Italia for good Italian.
Papa's is the best place in the neighborhood for a fine meal and a top-notch libation.
Oh, and the pastry selection is as good as you would find in any Viennese coffeehouse.

We had Papa Haydn make our wedding cake - it was incredible, and on our first anniversary they made us a free small cake with the same flavor! Such a sweet idea and both cakes were amazing. Can’t recommend enough!

Menu limited. Our old favorite French Onion Soup was terrible. Unrecognizable to previous delicious Onion soup here. Entries ordered were ok, not the outstanding flavor and presentation expected of our favorite Papa Haydn’s
Currently. So many tables and chairs packed into small space makes it difficult to even get to seating spot. Elbow to elbow in many cases with other guests of other parties. Hopefully next time will be returned to delicious servings and atleast more elbow room.
