I placed my order with Marylin, the owner, for a simple custom cake. 6 inches, two tiered, simple icing. Was quoted $150 but she assured that it would be the best cake I ever had. It did look beautiful, and exactly as I expected. Unfortunately, the cake itself was the worst I’ve ever had. Over baked and nearly tasteless for a carrot cake. I took the remaining portion back to provide evidence of the disaster. The staff was apologetic but told me I had to wait for a call from Marilyn. When she called offered me a single tier cake as a replacement. I requested a 50%, feeling that was more than generous but she would only offer me $50.
Do yourself a favor go anywhere else for a cake. Everyone at my party agreed that a Costco cake would’ve been a better option.

We got a few “loafs” of their carrot cake for my birthday this last weekend. They were good for sugar free, I’ll definitely eat here again. The only two feedback comments would be they were rather dry and the young lady on the phone wasn’t sure what was happening. Other than that, terrific, thank you.

My husband picked up my birthday cake here yesterday- it was $80 for a 2 layer 6” carrot cake with a super dry bottom layer, and did not even have cereal cheese frosting.
I’m horrified that he spent this much for a not very good cake. The second layer was more moist, but overall this cake was not good and ridiculously expensive. There is no way they should be charging $80 for a 6” cake unless the taste and presentation warrant it, which definitely- this cake did not. Frankly, they should be embarrassed by the quality of this cake for that cost.

Worth the drive and the price $6 per cupcake of decadent scrumptiousness. Always a pleasure to visit.

I have loved this bakery for such a long time. Last week, I went in to place a custom order for a birthday cake. Couldn't do it as the owner wasn't in so I left my number and she called me on the phone later that night. Just wanted a small 6" layer cake and was quoted $125. For $75 I could've ordered a single layer 6' cake. I was pretty surprised by the price. It seemed excessive...nothing customized outside of ordering it ahead of time. One of their regular offerings, in fact. When I indicated my hesitation at the price, I was persuaded to buy (4) cupcakes for $38 which also seemed high at almost $10 Per cupcake. Ended up going down the street to Papa Haydn who has AMAZING cakes and desserts. They are also on the expensive side but for a decadent and beautiful 9' triple layer triple chocolate cake, I paid $70. It was less than what I was going to have to pay for a plain one layer 6' cake at PofC. Sadly, I don't think I will be returning to Piece of Cake as the pricing seems truly outrageous. If you need vegan or gluten free, I can see going here but if you just need an amazing cake....I'd recommend elsewhere.

I came in yesterday around 6 PM. I got two pieces of cake. This was the driest cake I have ever ate in my life. The frosting was crusty and the cake was not moist, for over $10 a slice. I would prefer a Walmart cake over this. The employees act like they don’t want you to be there when you walk in, it feels uncomfortable. Will not be coming back any longer.

I’m so grateful Marilyn accommodated a short-notice request for my baby shower. I ordered 3 different kinds of jumbo cupcakes and a 9” Fantasy cake (cheesecake/cake hybrid). I requested a custom bear decoration that totally exceeded expectation. I was absolutely charmed. All of my guests loved the cake but top of the list was the Fantasy Cake and the vegan carrot cake. My personal favorite was the white chocolate raspberry almond. It wasn’t cheap, but it was worth it to us. When I went to pick up my order, I was pleased to see two women working behind the counter, they were helpful and also stoked about my bears. I would have liked to meet Marilyn too since she was so personable. The shop isn’t a posh west-side boutique, which may be what some folks are looking for. But it is a real down to earth neighborhood joint that feels like the Portland I hear people waxing nostalgic for. If you’re reconsidering your order based on other reviews, I definitely recommend going in and trying any of the many varieties they have ready to order to see if it’s for you. If you’re used to driving (and parking) in Portland, you won’t have a hard time navigating this area. If you don’t like parallel parking, just take a deep breath- you can do it.

Good old Marilyn all she cares about is making a buck. I spent $30 on three cupcakes via grub hub they were dry the icing fell off and also were really cold assumably from either placement in the freezer or refrigerator. I called her and she said she wasn't trying to be rude and advised me to contact grub hub--why? Did they bake them? She offered to have me drive there across town (that is why I used Grub Hub) and she would give me two cupcakes (not three). How generous.
I was considering them for a wedding cake for 200 people, looks like Marilyn made a mistake with her less than interested response.

I just had the worst, driest piece of cake of my life. The frosting was completely hard and the Lemon Coconut cake had no moisture whatsoever. It tasted like it was weeks old. I only ate a few bites because it was so bad and I was honestly worried I might get sick from it being so old.

I wouldn’t have paid $1 for that slice of cake, let alone $11.

Really wanted to like this place. Variety is impressive. Unfortunately everything has about 5x more sugar than it needs. It's just gritty and unpleasant. I love sweets but this is just shaped sugar. I understand that sells as it's what most people like, but I just put it in the bin.

Went in to get a few slices of cake based on some of the better reviews on here. Ordered 4 slices and were shocked to find they were 10.95 a piece which is over priced for the best piece of cake..which they were not.

Red velvet and carrot cake had regular icing not cream cheese as red velvet is classically paired with, and icing was very grainy. Red velvet also had chocolate chips in it which I thought was odd. Based on the slices I got I do not think the cake was very fresh and might have previously been frozen.

Atmosphere inside is a bit disorganized/ cluttered and chaotic.

Besides being the absolute best cakes in Portland, Piece of Cake has THE ABSOLUTE BEST customer service. Marilyn, the owner, was fantastic and helped me out last minute when other bakeries in town were telling me there was no possible way to get me what I needed in time. Thank you, Piece of Cake, for saving the day! I won’t buy cakes anywhere else from now on!
