Holy cow, how have we not been here before? I don't say this lightly: this is the best fish & chips spot we've had in the states. The fish is so unbelievably tender and flavorful. My husband got the salmon and I got the rockfish. Amazing. While we were waiting we popped into the market and got a few smoked oysters and scallops as a snack. So incredible. Nice staff. Quick service. We'll be back!

I could not be more impressed with this place!

My family and I went last night for dinner and it should have been a disaster. I was hangry and my over tired 5 year old was feeling a second wave of crazy energy, I was totally prepared to be disappointed with an all gluten free menu, after all, I can only eat gluten free and often it’s blah at best.

I shocked when right from entering, we were greeted by the friendliest and most helpful person at the counter. She walked us through all of the fish, even informed us where they were caught.

On to the food, we ordered a cod & chips and a Ling Cod fish & chips, and a clam chowder. The chowder was hearty and delicious, served piping hot and with optional oyster crackers (tho not GF). The nice lady told us that they use GF batter because it’s better and she was spot on, the GF batter was killer!! My husband who loves gluten even thought the GF batter was better, it was crispy, not too thick and delicious. Also, their house made tartar sauce was phenomenal - even our 5 year old food critic was impressed.

We will definitely be back.

I have been buying fish at the Portland Fish market for four years. This is the second year in a row that I’ve purchased my fish for making cioppino at the market! Unfortunately, this year I did not look in the bag before I left the store and by the time I realized what had happened all of the crab, except for the extra one that I bought outside of the order, had a black color on it. I mean, all of it five crabs not one of them did not have this black color. Now I have been eating crab and cooking cioppino with my family my entire life. I could not use the crab that was in the brown paper bag which I should’ve checked before I left the store. When I called the store was already closed. Thank God that Safeway was open because I had to run there to get my crab! I really expected more from Portland Fish market and whoever did my order, well, shame on you!

Stopped in for shrimp, grabbed some great looking clams as well. Highest quality seafood I've bought in a long long time. Had a lunch special cod+chips, delicious. Can't wait to come back!

Stumbled upon this place and it was the best fried salmon and oysters I’ve ever had. Clam chowder was also outstanding.

Bought scallops that were the freshest I've had since vacationing in Rhode Island. And they were huge. The best part, they were wild! Added a bonus and got the clam chowder. You gotta try it, they use Otto's bacon. Added a bottle of Pino Gregio when I got home and had a 5 star dinner. This Friday, it's gonna be the Ling Cod.

An amazing take on fish and chips! The fish is so delicious and buttery in a sense of texture and the fact that it's gluten free and TASTES AMAZING WITH FLAVOR is a HUGE deal for me. I have Celiac, so if you love fish and chips and you need to eat gluten free, I highly recommend it.

One of the best fish restaurants in town. Very casual. You can sit inside or out. You can get food to go and even food you can cook at home. They have a huge variety of wild caught fish. They even have smoked seafood. Definitely worth a try. But not fancy at all. They have a chickpea flour, soda and water batter - so gluten free fish and chips. Great local seafood restaurant.

Open 10-7 pm and they have great lunch specials M-F.

When I came here as a delivery driver the guy at the window was rude to me and just stared at me as I was checking my phone to get the customer's name. I gave them a chance and wanted to try out the food myself. The guy misheard me and ended up charging me for two orders of the cod and chips. He corrected it and I even tried to tip him 15% but he made a crack about not wanting to take out my entire balance and wouldn't let me. I only had a dollar on me but still put it in the tip jar; as someone who's worked in the service industry for years I always try to tip. The food was ok, fries were too salty but the cod was good. I won't be coming back as a delivery driver or customer. Not worth putting up with their attitude.

Gluten Free Fried Fish! We ordered a variety- the cod, salmon, halibut and rockfish. We enjoyed them all, but the recommendation to try the rockfish was appreciated. It was just as described, It's always a great feeling to order whatever I would like without worry of being sick. My first meal in Portland set the bar pretty high!

This is my go-to for the best scallops and clams in town! Always fresh! Knowledgeable staff that knows by “hiding “ the Jacobson caramels by the register, we customers will never find them. Ha! Last night we had the ling cod which was fantastic- tender , moist, delish. Tonight we’re having the humongous scallops , tomorrow I’ll go back in for a lb or so of clams, and hit the bread store on my way out for something buttery and crusty to go with! I just discovered yesterday that they keep fish broth in the freezer, so I’ll use that for the fish’s, and the scallops tonight. Thanks guys! And thanks for being open on Sundays!
