We decided to try the Pizza Week special. When we arrived, we were instantly told in an unkind and annoyed manner that we needed to call ahead for bigger groups and we couldn't be seated. It was a very abrupt response and we could have been ordering takeout. We placed an order for a whole pie and were told to wait outside. Seemed a little weird but there were many open tables but everyone seated were caucasian customers. We were a group of POC. Pizza lacked the ingredients, barely any chicken, all pickle chips. Also, they charge automatic 20% gratuity, also for take out orders. I don't support places that do that because gratuity should be earned not forced. And come on.. this is take out.

The good: The hostess was lovely and the kitchen sent out a tasty pizza. The rest: My party and I had a subpar dining experience on April 19th in the evening, which defeated the purpose of dining in.Our server was inattentive. It took 90+ minutes to receive our sit-down order as we watched freshly-placed takeout orders get prioritized time and time again. Maybe they were just overwhelmed, as it's pizza week, but you have to operate like it's each diner's first time. Because unfortunately, that was the case for my party. Not a good first impression.Communication goes a long way and it was lacking at Red Sauce Pizza. I can understand the kitchen being backed up at dinnertime but you tell your patrons that and give an ETA. Don't leave them to sit and wonder or have to inquire. Service 101.The worst part is that their soft serve was one of the draws. While our server was literally sitting down laughing with another table of patrons as we tried to get her attention, a big group came in and got the last of the soft serve before the machine broke. I know this because I got up and went to ask the hostess for boxes and soft serve after being tired of sitting in that place and she cringed as she told me. When our actual server finally came back over to see if we needed anything (after we no longer did), she also joked about how she was finally done ignoring us. She also insisted I was wrong when I explained the latest development to her about the soft serve. Can't make this stuff up.FYI - 20% gratuity is automatically included for parties of all sizes.I've noticed the owner making defensive replies to folks on here leaving critical feedback rather than looking at opportunities to improve, which is really disappointing. With all the wonderful pizza shops in Portland (Babydoll, Scottie's, Ken's, the list goes on), no reason to gamble on a repeat here.

Pizza was tasty, but I wouldn't put it at the top of the list in Portland. Unfortunately, I won't be heading back, at least not to dine in. After being seated, service was poor. The only way to get attention was to get up and chase someone down after waiting 15 to 30 mins..

Cute little casual date night spot for good pizza. We enjoyed the pie, beer and uno cards! Atmosphere is charming, quirky and a tad rebellious - felt like teenage nostalgia.

Came here for pizza week. Waited a while for the pizza which was ok but the staff was incredibly rude.Updating per restaurant response: We were a group of 8 that came in to try the Pizza Week special. Per Google Maps, no reservations are required. However we were told (in an unkind and annoyed manner by one member of your staff) that we needed to call ahead for bigger groups. If that is true then it would be nice to have that information listed on Google or your website. We ordered a pie and were told to wait outside. Upon waiting, we noticed many open seating in the restaurant but couldn’t help to notice that it was mostly caucasian customers that were seated inside, while we POC customers were told to wait outside. Waited about 25 mins for the pizza, the lady who actually brought out the pizza was nice.It was my first time here and I was excited to try out the pizza special, but I felt that our group in regards to service was not treated well.

The pizza and Cesar sale were both excellent. I thought the crust has really good texture and flavor with the right amount of chew. What really solidifies this as a five star joint is the soft serve. It's so creamy and delicious! The service was fast and friendly. The staff were really nice to my young daughters and had coloring sheet for them.

Fantastic pizza and great service! As a bonus, the owner's replies to the lame negative reviews here are stellar.

20% Auto-gratuity!? What? I could imagine this if it was on a big group of folks, but on a check for 3 diners? We won't be back.If you need to charge more to pay your employees, build it into menu pricing... but to hide it in an auto gratuity? Where's the incentive for good service? I can see from the recent reviews that I'm not the only person who feels this way. Not a good policy and it overshadows the rest of the experience.

BEST Pizza around. LOVE IT here. I have some friends that always wanna try to get a spot at Ken's. Legit, Ken's is good... If you want a pizza that's up there, in terms of quality, with Ken's, but you don't wanna f*** around for an eternity with waiting in line with a mountain of yuppies, just go north a few blocks to Red Sauce Pizza and you'll be glad you did. I don't wanna make this about a Ken's comparison, because that's just unfair to Red Sauce. Red Sauce stands on its own as LEGIT good pizza. They get an awesome char on the outer crust, the ingredients are quality and they dont' over-do it. It's just perfect. Red Sauce is a sleeper. Don't sleep on it though! Keep it in your back pocket :D I think it's the best in town.

I love Red Sauce Pizza. The pizzas are great and it is so welcoming and comfortable. The staff are always so friendly and attentive. It's one of our top go-to restaurants our family loves.

I'll say right off the bat, I will not be back. The pizza was fine, nothing special. There's lots of good pizza in the neighborhood. My biggest complaint is that you automatically charge what you refer to as "gratuity" on takeout orders. You should pay your employees what their time is worth, and gratuity should be exactly that, for sure on takeout. Also, there was absolutely zero people dining in, maybe because it doesn't feel inviting that everyone working there was wearing masks, but that's my own feelings. The gratuity thing really irritated me, and like I said, fine pizza, plenty of other choices.

The Ritual Arts vegan pizza is soooo good and might be my fave vegan pizza in Portland. The sauce is amazing and I love the plant-based pep.
