Food was stellar, but the place was a bit strange. Oddly empty, and with only one server. Decoration was a tad all over the place as well. I feel like this could be a really cool spot, once they get some more people in and start ironing out the details.

Had wonderful cocktails, warm olives, steak fries, and miso cod. Steak filet was tender and tasty. Frites perfect. Loved the space and background music. Delightful waitress. Perfect dinner out. Will bring friends next time.

Really good food, but sometimes slow service. Reservations are a good idea, it helps them plan ahead.

Phenomenal truffle mac and cheese, best I’ve ever had. Great atmosphere with classic sellwood vibes.

Such a lovely French experience. Great atmosphere, service so friendly and knowledgeable. Food took me back to meals at Parisien bistros. In many ways better as the salads were wonderful especially the charred baby gem. Recommend highly.

This place was a huge disappointment for Valentine's day. I ordered the Valentine's dinner experience, plus the "fruits de mar" and the "sac de gaterie". Wel, the fruits de mar literally just was forgotten. When I asked about it, they removed it from the bill since it was the same cost as the Cocktail and juice I ordered. Never received the sac de gaterie, and left very disappointed. The service was very understaffed. The food that we did receive was good, but 3 people running the front of house and bar for a special occasion is a joke. Terrible management. I see this as a prime example of what is wrong with the dining experience today. These restaurants throw away money by understaffing. I would have spent more money and would have come back if it was a proper service. The whole time I couldn't help thinking "Gordon Ramsay could fix the hell out of this place". Probably won't return.

Everything about it was pretty horrible. I had an 8pm reservation which I arrived time for. The front of house left me waiting and didn't even talk to us for around 15 minutes. Once seated it took about 30 minutes to be offered drinks. I ordered a tenderloin and they gave me a sirloin instead (other guests did get tenderloins). It took about an hour and a half to get food from my scheduled reservation. Overall I was embarrassed that I went here and wasted my money, everything was subpar from the food to the service.

This restaurant is a great place. Newly opened, we had a couple of minor hitches but the new waiter is smart, personable, willing and they were all sorted out quickly with no problems. He did well. The food was wonderful, hot, tasty and something to suit every palate. Nice wine, everything well presented. Above all the furnishing selection makes it quiet with pleasant music allowing us to talk to each other easily. A great find we'll certainly go again. It's going to become favourite, I'm sure.

What a great asset for the neighborhood. Real sincere bistro without attitude. Very creative chef staff.

Overpriced food that tastes bland and barely anyone there for what should be one of the busiest nights to dine out. Also service wasn't great and long wait times. Just skip it. There are tons of amazing spots in Sellwood to try instead where you can pay less than half the cost at Rue Cler for triple the portion size and way more delicious flavor.

Gave this local spot a try as the menu options looked diverse and appealing. The bread used for the artichoke dip is absolutely phenomenal so crispy and just perfectly seasoned. The dip itself left much to be desired. The hunters bolognese is a skip for me. The sauce was almost entirely lacking all flavor simply tasting like a generic cream sauce. Surprisingly no lamb or elk as advertised in the dish. The service was okay. It took around 20mins to be asked if we were ready to order our entrees after we finished our appetizer. Keep in mind there was only one couple other than us in the building. Ambiance was great with one exception I'll get to later. The front is a wonderful French market that was warm and welcoming. It opens into a large dining room with high ceilings full of beautiful paintings and comfortable seating arrangements. The one issue was it felt lifeless due to the lack of people. It was prime dinner hour on a weekend and there was only two other groups of people that we saw the entire time. It felt like we weren't supposed to be there. Uneasy feeling made us question if we should have picked another place to dine that night. The highlight was the Vesper Martini. It was exceptional. Very hard to get a well made martini most places but the bartender knocked this out of the park. Sadly I wasn't offered if I wanted another after finishing the first I would have gladly obliged! Overall I really don't enjoy writing a negative review on a local spot but I just feel like this restaurant needs so much more. Needs to focus on perfecting their menu then getting the word out there that they exist so it doesn't feel like an empty warehouse. I hope to return at a later time and see this place thriving. Unfortunately it will be some time before the sun rises on that day.

This is a great spot in Sellwood for gathering. Lots of space, great vibe. Good selection of affordable, quality wine, cocktails, and non-alcoholic beverages to make any Happy Hour group feel relaxed and comfortable. The small plates are easy to share, and the big plates are terrific bistro classics. The owner put a lot of thought into a variety of seating arrangements and super-comfortable chairs and tables for either intimate or large parties. Highly recommend, whether you are a twosome or a group.

Service was a mixed-some appetizer dishes came out with the entrees which made for a very crowded table and a rushed eating experience. Steak was cooked to order but was mushy in texture-it had no sear on it. Maybe that is "French style" but it was not to my liking. Wines were good.

This new French restaurant is a welcome addition to our Sellwood neighborhood. We went for dinner as a family of four, with two teenaged kids. We have French roots and all of us know French food from travels in France. We all liked the food. We had 4 different main dishes: steelhead, filet mignon, chicken cordon bleu, fondue. All were good. My son had the steak and liked the sauce. My wife had the steelhead and liked it but didn't like the sauce on the side. My daughter enjoyed the fondue, which comes with diced apples, bread, fries to dip in the cheese. I had the cordon bleu: very generous piece of chicken and flavorful cordon bleu. We also had the charcuterie plate: not huge but very nice. We left stuffed and could not have tried a desert. Overall, I would say their cooking is hearty, not a light meal. The filet mignon is expensive but the other dishes were in the $30 range. One suggestion: come with the idea of having a conversation, like you would going to a bar. The time between ordering and getting the main meal was rather long. We were in a good mood and having a nice time, enjoying the French belle époque decorations. Do not come to Rue Cler if you are in a hurry to get somewhere. Come to relax and have a French hearty meal.
