Amazing, amazing , amazing. That’s all I have. It’s a must visit if you’re anywhere near the Portland area. Chicken and waffles are next level. The level of service is second to none - your coffee will not run out, almost felt like a hidden camera watching to make sure!

Little too peopley for me but worth it on occasion. If you are a big fat heifer like I am, It's a little awkward if they stick you at a booth. Wait staff are all toothpicks. Found myself slightly anxious about how I was going to leave. At one point definitely felt trapped at my table and unable to reach the restroom but I think even a 5-year-old could have felt that way with how shoulder to shoulder they have the restaurant but if that's how they have to roll in order to survive, I respect it. The food was really good.

If you’re craving Southern comfort with big flavor, this is it. Got the fried chicken with sweet potato waffles — crispy, juicy, sweet, salty… just hit after hit. Portion was huge too. Place was packed but moved pretty fast, and the staff were cool even with a full house. The space has this rustic-but-clean vibe that feels honest. Restroom was fine — not fancy, but clean and didn’t smell like trouble

Called in an order over the phone, and when I came in to pick it up, they told me I was being charged a $3.00 tip “just because “. Seriously? I get tipping but at that point i had Not been serviced in any special way other than paid kitchen staff cooking my food.I wasn’t being seated, nobody was cleaning my dishes, etc. The chicken tenders were bland, which is why they put so much breading on it. It’s just way over hyped and Inappropriate And pretentious to ask someone who is picking up takeout to pay three dollars extra. for a tip.

Absolutely disappointed with this place. I went there with my brother and our friend, we drove 40 minutes to get there and waited 40 minutes for our table. As soon as we sat down we placed our order because we already knew what we wanted. 30 minutes passed and we didn’t get our food, but everyone around us was already almost done eating, despite them being seated after us and ordering after. A party of 8 was sat after us and ordered after, but still got their food way before. We politely asked the waitress to check on our food, she came back and gave us some lame excuse that they dropped a piece of chicken in the kitchen and it backed up all the orders, but would be out soon. We decided to wait another few minutes and told the waitress we would just leave if the food wasn’t out soon. She didn’t care at all. We were really excited to try this place but were shocked at how terrible the service was. Very interesting experience considering that we were the only people of color in the restaurant (very obviously black and brown), everyone who was getting their food wasn’t. We’re not the only ones who have experienced this and there are plenty of other reviews with people experiencing discrimination when dining at this restaurant. They cited a very similar experience of bad customer service and not receiving food. This place does not deserve the ratings that it has. I’m utterly disappointed in the management of this restaurant and the employees who seem to not care at all. Do better.

As always, amazing in every way. I always recommend this place, I bring all my friends and family. The Canal Street Coffee is a perfect touch with the house spiced whip cream. The chicken and sweet potato waffles were on my mind all day yesterday knowing we were coming through portland and could swing by. I will always love the brunch at this place. Absolutely amazing all around, familiar and friendly staff, great recipes - all around fabulous.

Can't say enough good about this place. Excellent food and customer service 👌 one thing to consider.... when you have 5 stars in food and service, you will also have a lot of people. So this is not the place do you expect silence 😉

Parking around the restaurant can be a little tricky, but we were fortunate to find a good spot nearby. Once inside, the ambiance was incredible—warm, stylish, and inviting. It’s a place that immediately feels special.

We started our meal with the hush puppies, which were full of flavor and not bland at all. We requested a little butter on the side, which added a nice touch, though they stood well on their own. The sugar snap peas were another highlight—fresh, crisp, and perfectly seasoned.

For the main course, we enjoyed the fried chicken with mac and cheese. The chicken was crispy and well-seasoned, while the mac and cheese was solid, if a bit average. The standout dish of the evening, however, was the seared trout—easily the best fish I’ve ever had. The preparation and flavor profile were simply outstanding.

The ribs were also on the table and described as delightful, tender, and flavorful. The baked beans that came with them were rich and satisfying.

We ended the meal with a cup of coffee and the strawberry shortcake—an absolute treat and the perfect finish to a fantastic dining experience.

Highly recommend Screen Door. We’ll definitely be back!

Review of Screen Door Eastside – Brunch Visit

Our family recently returned to Screen Door on Burnside for brunch. It was a mixed experience overall, with some clear highlights and a few letdowns.

Kids’ Meals:
• Two of the boys ordered the Golden Waffles, which were a hit. Described as “good” and nicely cooked, they were a solid choice for a kid-friendly brunch.
• The cinnamon buns were also well-received—soft, sweet, and clearly a favorite at the table.
• One child ordered a hamburger, which he said was good and filling—it hit the mark for a simple, satisfying option.
• Unfortunately, the chicken strips were a miss. While the breading was noted as good and crispy, it came off easily and the flavor of the chicken itself was lacking.

Adult Meals:
• One adult had the Cajun Scramble, which was described as “average.” It didn’t stand out, especially compared to other brunch items on the menu.
• The star of the meal, however, was the Huevos Rancheros. Flavorful, well-balanced, and satisfying, it earned top marks and would easily be ordered again.
• The cheesy grits that came with the dish also got a special mention for being particularly tasty.

Summary:
While some dishes were forgettable, the Huevos Rancheros and cinnamon buns stood out as highlights. The overall atmosphere and service continue to make Screen Door a worthwhile brunch stop, though quality can vary by dish. We’d return—but skip the chicken strips next time.

My oysters were very good and my friend’s fried chicken was good as well. The restaurant was too noisy to carry on a conversation, but I went to eat, not talk. Watch your step going out to the patio, my friend almost fell, but didn’t.
