Delicious food and great service and atmosphere. Recommend if driving thru Portland.
The steelhead trout is amazing! Perfectly cooked, fresh and flaky. The sauces and vegetables that came with were a perfect pairing. Very nice place!
Great food, friendly service, family friendly, great vibes, LGBTQ+ friendly, perfect place to visit in Portland - love it!!!
Fantastic! Always worth it! You have to get fried chicken. Wouldn't be my first pick for veggie food but my sister in law who is veggie always enjoys herself and keeps coming back. I think this is one of the only places in Portland where you can find a great sweet tea.
One of our go-to spots we like to have lunch at before seeing a play at PCS on the weekend. Everyone we've taken here has enjoyed it. If you are only visiting once, definitely try something with the chicken. The cinnamon rolls are delicious. Place can get very busy extremely quickly, so expect a long wait list if you hit it during peak hours.
Great chicken and waffles. Really good seasoning! Friendly service, too.
Great vibes and great food. Worth the wait.
2 hour rate skipped over several times but if you have a party of 2 or a reservation absolutely amazing food

get a reservation, get there early or expect to maybe wait. this is a well trafficked eatery that puts out incredible food. on the morning I ate here I opted for the Bananas Foster French Toast with bacon and an Espresso Martini... Some of the best French Toast I've ever had. Make sure you get the bacon though to provide the saltiness to offset some of the sweetness.

I had heard a lot about Screen Door in Portland, but unfortunately, my experience was nothing short of a disaster. The food was shockingly bad—completely overrated and lacking any real flavor. The famous fried chicken was greasy and overcooked, while the sides were bland and under-seasoned. Even the mac and cheese, which should be a staple, tasted like something out of a box. It was a total letdown.
However, the food wasn’t even the worst part—the service was abysmal. Our server was inattentive, rude, and seemed utterly uninterested in doing their job. We waited almost 30 minutes just to place our order, and when the food finally arrived, it was lukewarm. Trying to get anyone’s attention for water refills or the check felt like an impossible task. It was as if the staff didn’t care whether we were there or not.
I rarely write reviews, but this experience was bad enough to warrant one. Save your time, money, and appetite and skip Screen Door. It’s not worth the hype.

Holy moly y’all treat yourselves to this yummy yummy food!! Also the kitchen was female dominated which was super cool to see. Just so good, also worth it if you can manage to come on a weekday morning you can hopefully evade crowds. Super cute place and great service too! Cant recommend enough!

Screen Door in Portland is a true treasure for anyone craving authentic Southern comfort food. Their Chicken & Waffles are legendary-crispy, perfectly seasoned fried chicken paired with fluffy waffles and a drizzle of syrup that strikes the ideal balance between savory and sweet. The Lowcountry Shrimp & Grits is another standout, with tender, flavorful shrimp nestled in creamy, rich grits, topped with a savory sauce that's pure Southern magic.
The Black-Eyed Pea Fritters are a must-try side, packed with traditional seasoning and a depth of flavor that's both hearty and nostalgic. And, of course, you can't leave without trying their Pecan Pie-a decadent masterpiece with a buttery crust and a gooey, nutty filling that's just the right amount of sweet.
Screen Door's welcoming atmosphere, generous portions, and dedication to soulful flavors make it a top choice for comfort food in Portland. Whether you're there for brunch, dinner, or just dessert, it's an unforgettable experience!

I'd say 3.5 stars, but they won't let me! Building is awesome, service was almost perfect, but the menu is very limited and we didn't have a single item that we thought "we're coming back again for this". Ordered the salmon, house salad, fries, and mac 'n cheese, plus bread pudding for desert.
We'd heard about Screen Door for some time, almost went to the E. Burnside location a few weeks ago, ended up going to the NW Couch location the other night.
We were let down, but I'd go again if the menu evolved and the food was higher end.
Parking: Street parking, pay meters during required times, busy area.
Kid-friendliness: Plenty of room, plenty of kids when we were there.
