I walked in and first thig I saw was a nasty stinky garbage can not the expensive ones that you could understand them not purchasing a new one but this was the bathroom type garbage can. The plastic plain ones that cost $15 at Walmart. When i say nasty i dont mean it was full in factthere was very little actual garbage in it. The problem was the sides it looked like someone spit chew all over the sides. It more than likely coffee grounds but why they woukd throw that out so far from the counter and in the middle of the walkway is just silly so.. I tried not to think to much about it and told myself its a garage can. Garbage is gross so I gave it a chance and continued in to order. It wasn't much better. Im pretty sure it had carpet I cant remember if it actually did or not but it gave off the feeling of having 50 year old carpet thats had cats living on it more than half its life. Again I cant actually remember id it did or not but I swear, when visualize it now.. I see the carpet.. I wish I could say the coffee was worth it because I went in because it was a small business owned and I loved the name and thought the outside looked more like it would be like a small corner books store that sold coffe. Unfortunately the coffee was just ok. Not amazing enough to go back despite all the negatives .
I will say the cards they sell are hilarious and I do like the lady behind the bar. I got the feeling it was an owned and operated by her but I have no idea. If it is it would explain the lack of cleanliness. Thats gotta be a lot on one persons plate. That being said if it had a good overhaul in the cleaning department I would go back once in a while for the friendly vibe I received.

I ordered the Peach Streusel Muffin, and it had mold laced throughout the whole thing, and on the outside paper 🤢 I can't believe I ate some of it before realizing it.

Edit response to Owner's reply:

Thank you for your reply.

I appreciate the reminder that things can go wrong with baked goods, especially in warmer weather. I also appreciate the reminder that a simple request for a replacement could have avoided a detailed review and the involvement of health authorities, but this was a to go order, and that was not possible. Also, it was appropriate and the responsible thing to do. Not only for my safety, but for others as well. You clearly show acknowledgment of the problem but have not implemented policies to address it.

I’ll consider sticking to places that don’t make everything from scratch, though I must admit, I’d prefer to stick to establishments that prioritize customer health, safety, and quality over excuses.

Wishing you the best in keeping your baked goods fresh and your responses polished!

Outstanding coffee! The BlackBerry Lavender Latte was a 10/10 and very smooth. The coffee wasn’t bitter and just right. Perfect for a morning wake up stop.

Love our neighborhood coffee shop! Great people and amazing off-beat, kitschy, funky vibes. My favorite is the honey and maple latte!

I've got mixed feelings on this place anymore. Depending on who is working here, the experience can vary. Some of the people working up front seemed annoyed that you chose to walk through the door, but the younger people working upfront are very friendly.

The coffee is good and I like the ambiance. But when I don't know who will be working the front, I tend to go somewhere that I know I'll be welcomed.

PDX Parent recommended this as a kid friendly coffee shop. My 2-year-old granddaughter enjoyed the play corridor, but I was shocked by how truly filthy all the toys were. A toss in soapy water once a week would be a start! I wiped down each item she picked up. I hope this feedback reaches someone. Coffee was fine. The name Space Monkey Coffee alone does not equal "winner," as described by PDX Parent. I don't see myself going back. All the best.

Perfectly nice lattes. Seating isn't as comfortable as I wish it was.

I don't typically enjoy Portland coffee, and they have that flavor, but I like theirs.
i'm not sure what it is about Portland coffee that makes me feel a little ill and I shudder at the flavor, but I don't get that from Space Monkey.
Additionally, their food is unique and delicious, not overly greased, sweet, or processed.

Their tuna is sorta dry and bland, but in a way I absolutely love. I'm not sure how they keep breaking food and coffee rules for the better, but they're pulling it off.

Old school Portland. They're quick, friendly, and still do punch cards (yay!). Support small local businesses!

Perfect. 10/10 recommend for anyone who misses old Portland or who just wants to get some coffee.

Dietary restrictions: Tasty gluten free options, didn't mess up my celiac at all.

Service was great, coffee was good, despite the size and packaging. We wanted to stay and enjoy the vibes but it was somewhat full for 3 extra people.
