PDX Parent recommended this as a kid friendly coffee shop. My 2-year-old granddaughter enjoyed the play corridor, but I was shocked by how truly filthy all the toys were. A toss in soapy water once a week would be a start! I wiped down each item she picked up. I hope this feedback reaches someone. Coffee was fine. The name Space Monkey Coffee alone does not equal "winner," as described by PDX Parent. I don't see myself going back. All the best.

I don't typically enjoy Portland coffee, and they have that flavor, but I like theirs. i'm not sure what it is about Portland coffee that makes me feel a little ill and I shudder at the flavor, but I don't get that from Space Monkey. Additionally, their food is unique and delicious, not overly greased, sweet, or processed.
Their tuna is sorta dry and bland, but in a way I absolutely love. I'm not sure how they keep breaking food and coffee rules for the better, but they're pulling it off.

That said, recently it's feeling pretty unclean. I will no longer get food from here, only coffee.
In addition to the general feel of dirtiness, they let a homeless man basically live on the sofa, with his blanket. I've seen him there for months. When the shop is closed, he's outside on the street with the same blanket.
I know hearts may be in the right place, but that sofa he lives on in your shop for hours on end is beyond unsanitary. It makes the entire cafe seem very, very dirty and therefore unwelcoming. Not because his homelessness is an issue (he seems quiet and respectful), but the level of uncleanliness is not okay for anyplace serving food.
I want to keep supporting you. I have passed you up a few times recently though because I see that man CONSTANTLY camped out on your sofa, and honestly it is too unclean. When your main room is this visible unsanitary and unkept, how can the kitchen be?

I was a little bit iffy going in but I trusted the reviews and full seats. So glad I did because this was the best coffee we had during our trip! Appreciate all the vegan options and the muffin I got for later was amazing.
Great coffee options. Lots of syrup flavors and you can get an espresso drink with any kind of milk. They also do regular coffee refills for $1. It's got a real local neighborhood vibe to it.

Space Monkey used to be my go-to coffeeshop for several years since I moved into the neighborhood. The pandemic hit them hard and, it seems the staff entirely turned over. I was unable to make any connection with the new staff and it felt like a completely different place, so I moved on and found a more amendable place for my morning coffeeshop haunt.
I wish SM well. It's a good, old-school kind of place that I generally really like. I just don't feel much welcomed by the new staff.
