Delicious coffee in an artistic space! Pricing was very fair as well

I just discovered this place and my mind is blown! I got "The Wicked Awesome" and it was the best breakfast sandwich I've had in a long time. The egg was cooked perfectly, the house made sausage was light and flavorful, and the pep-parm flavoring ? Oh, and the bagel was prefect for a breakfast sandwich. I'm definitely going to be a regular now.

I can't gush enough about Spunky. Grey, the owner, is delightful, and he makes one of the best espressos I've ever had. Those breakfast sandwiches are divine too! This is our local coffee haven - it puts the chains to absolute shame. Long live Spunky Monkey :)

This morning I came by and got a sandwich and a hazelnut iced coffee. The coffee is the best I've had in Portland and otherwise and so was the bagel sandwich. I liked the overall vibe of the place too. And the prices are not crazy at all considering the quality and size of the bagel sandwiches. Definitely will be back!!!

My first time here with a friend who swears by this place. I had never seen a five star google rating, and I’m a coffee snob so I was skeptical of the shack setup, but Spunky Monkey delivered in fantastic fashion.

The garden bagel sandwich to which I added two eggs was easily the best value dose of high quality food I have ever encountered in a decade of pdx dining. The generous avocado and tomato slabs were not only fresh but incredibly delicious, and the smell of the ingredients emanating from the cart belied their wholesome quality.

Our visit was close to closing but the owner operator made no qualms about brewing a fresh pot of his home-roasted coffee. I only drink drip and the nutty earthy brew I received had a unique enough flavor and strong enough caffeine kick to leave a memorable impression.

The genuinely friendly service, great taste, high quality, and incredible value of this spot deserves nothing less than 5 stars. Be kind to yourself and give the Spunky Monkey a try, you won’t regret it.

(P.S. for photo context I have big hands and wear extra-large gloves at work, I am honestly gobsmacked I was able to eat this all in one push. Stayed full all day and would wager that this dando contained 30-35 grams of protein).

AMAZING!

I stopped by this place earlier today on a strong recommendation from a local friend (and a curiosity over the 5.0 here) and am definitely better for it! This is absolutely a solid 5-star place, rare as it might be these days.

I was handed one of the best breakfast sandwiches I've ever had in my life this morning (a "Smoky Barbarian"), and that says something as it is not terribly easy to impress me. Previously, the top-contender for breakfast sandwiches was an exceptional independent and highly-rated bagel shop in New York City on the other side of the country. Spunky Monkey, incredibly, somehow blows that sandwich out of the water. It's just made with the kind of care and ingredients that can't be beat; this guy is a legitimate breakfast sandwich wizard.

I also got a lavender-infused latte which is nothing short of amazing. This is not just a latte with some lavender-flavor Torani squirted in. I wasn't watching closely enough while the very friendly owner-operator was making my drink, but if I had to guess, it would be easy to guess there was real lavender involved. It's really exceptionally good.

He's got an impressive and esoteric-looking coffee brewing setup in the place that I'm sure produces amazing results if I had opted for drip and it ignites my curiosity on the topic of brewing coffee a fair bit. The breakfast sandwiches are cooked on a barbecue right outside to access to (literally) fire up the delicious food on. He's very friendly and chatted with us a bit as we waited and was super accommodating to a last minute change to the order after the grill had already been fired up.

I regret that I didn't take a picture of the amazing, huge breakfast sandwich like I normally might after a bite or two. I was too distracted enjoying it. I'd have liked to post a picture to this review too. Whoops.. now I feel bad for not doing so. I'll tell ya though, it was massive, full, and just the right good level of "sloppy". I'll come back here to post a pic next time I stop by, because I definitely will be...

I drive through the neighborhood once a week or so on business and I think I'm going to simply forget that my old stop for coffee and breakfast even exists and come here instead every time.

We stopped here as our first stop on a drive home to California from Seattle, and it was absolutely perfect. The maple latte is made with real maple syrup, the hot chocolate has actual chocolate, and the breakfast sandwich was the best bagel sandwich I've had. It's cooked on the grill and the whole thing was soft and flavorful. The owner was extremely friendly!
