I entered the Starbucks store on NW 23rd Street in Portland, OR and ordered. While waiting I was looking at the merchandise when I was approached rudely by a woman who said she worked for Starbucks and wanted to know what I was doing. Taken back I said I was looking at the variety of merchandise. She indicated I needed to leave. When I said I was waiting for an order she immediately walked away. After receiving my order, I sat down. I watched her approach only those individuals who entered the store and appeared to be homeless like myself. She did not approach anyone who was well dressed and groomed. OK they may be experiencing theft and are trying to protect themselves, which on occasion leads them to mistake paying customers for thieves. I can live with that. My real problem lies with Starbucks touting itself as a socially conscious ‘all are welcome†type of business. It was clear to me that this is not the case. The incident showed me not only how deceitful this company is, but just how poorly they treat our homeless population. Since I have a good job and home without this incident I may never have known what others face who are less fortunate. Is it any wonder Starbucks is losing so much market share to Dutch Brothers?
I'm not sure who is in charge of ordering drink ingredients for the Greenburg store but they need to get their act together. I don't know how many times I've been in there recently and they can't make the drink I want because they've ran out of something. I'm not going to bother going in there anymore.
I am sorry to write this review on the NW Interior Regional Office site, however, there was no where (other than Face Book or Twitter), for the SW Greenberg and SW Sandy Ln Starbucks. I have never had any issues with Starbucks. As a matter of fact, I spend much of my "fun," budget $$ at Starbucks for meeting friends, having one-on-one meetings, etc. That is why I thought I would let you know why I cannot bring myself to visit a Starbucks now. After many years, I now visit anywhere other than Starbucks. I also try to get a regular coffee cup (open top). Two weeks ago, I decided to stop my the drive through at Greenburg and Sandy Ln (Or). I ordered something a little different from my usual; I ordered a Grande, Dirty Chai Soy Latte. I had decided, after a couple hours of shopping, to take my delicious drink home to enjoy with my lunch, which I did. All was fine until the last drop (the foam), which I normally shake the cup to help the foam to slide to the bottom of the cup for that last, foamy, taste. As I shook the cup, an unusual, tap sounded on the inside of the cup, against the cup walls. I took the lid off, to find a white, plastic lid inside, on the bottom of my now, consumed latte. It was the exact size and design of the lid of a soy milk carton. I called the store, and the person on the other end listened to my story, and asked me if I would be coming back that day (Really? You think I am going back for another DIRTY Chai soy latte right now?). I let her know that I probably wouldn't even be driving by until Monday (on my way to work). She was nice enough to let me know that she wanted to "make it right," and offered me a free drink. The problem is, I was grossed out enough by the first drink (and the question of how many people had touched the lid before it sat unsuspectingly in my latte), that I actually don't think I will visit any Starbucks for a long time. I am sorry that I am only one customer, who may be the only one to ever have this happen, and the money spent on coffees for these many years doesn't compare with the money earned by so many SBs all over the country. I just thought you would want to know--maybe you can save someone the grief of finding a plastic, carton lid in the bottom of their ''finished" drink. Starbucks sure knows how to put the "dirty" into a Dirty Chai Soy Latte. Thank you.
