This restaurant has been our family's favorite sushi restaurant for about six years now. The sushi rice is delicious, and the yellowtail, tuna, and salmon (made by sushi chef Noriyukiーsan) are all very tasty, reasonably priced, and there are plenty of vegan options for our vegan friends. It's a fun place where even small children will enjoy eating the sushi delivered by train. And the manager Mike's attentive customer service puts us at ease. It's a bit far from where we live, but when someone in our family suggests going to Sushi Ichiban, everyone is smiling and full of happiness. It's a restaurant we'd like to visit again and again in the future.

MY favorites: Best hand roll, salmon skin. Best fried, tempura tai. Best roll, spicy tuna. Best sashimi, escolar (only a little bit — there is a reason some places don’t carry it). GOOD miso soup.

The one star off was because of the homeless people down the street only. The Sushi bar is great with Sat and Wednesday specials. Good service and Kai The owner is 6 stars all the way.

Vegetarian options: Though mostly fish, you can have veggies enough for those in need

My favorite train/conveyor sushi in Portland. Fresh fish and reasonable prices. We eat here once a week.

The best sushi in PDX, hands down! Always fresh and the staff is always friendly. Not a "hold up your pinky hoyty toyty place," just solid, excellent, no frills sushi.

One of my favorite sushi spots in town and I often suggest meeting friends here or having a dinner date here when I have guests visiting town. There are a few conveyor belt sushi restaurants here in Portland, but my go-to is always Sushi Ichiban. I find their quality of ingredients to be the best with being not too much difference in price with other places. It's always worth the price for me.
The interior is super cute and homely too, it reminds me of like a vintage/old-timey Japanese shop with the wood work, decor, and figurines strewn about. Also, Their "conveyor belt" is a model train pulling the sushi around! It's unique and adds to the experience.
The area is indeed sketchy with it being in Chinatown, but I was always able to find parking on the corners of where the restaurant is located and had never been hassled.

What a fun place. I loved the train that brought the sushi around. I'd been to rotating sushi before, but this was the first time my brother had been. Great shared experience for us.

Always welcoming, very laid back. Great if you want either a quick bite, or take your time and chat with the chefs when it's slow

Mainly chose this place because it wasn't crazy expensive and looked fun. You get to have a goofy train bring around sushi that you just watched be made and it is delicious. For 2 adults, we spent around $40 before tip. I would definitely come back!
