Okay. So I typically try to leave as honest of reviews as I possibly can. I really didn't want to leave a review this time. Because I felt that the service was exceptional, but the restaurant itself was not. I felt the sushi was a bit off temperature. The crab meat didn't taste like it should, And the rest of the feeling in the restaurant felt a little bit dirty, not too much. Which leads me to my next point I was constantly bombarded from the time my drink hit the table by tiny little flies that I kept killing over and over it ruined my entire evening, as I tried my best to hold a smile for the hostess, as I knew she understood that I was probably aggravated by what I was going through? I tried to mention it to her, but I know there was nothing she could do about it, but the flies were absolutely atrocious. Even though the service was great, I probably will not be back. Side note: this was the first time I ever took myself out to eat alone as an adult, and it made me feel like I don't want to do it again haha also.. what's with the shrimp tails?? UPDATE: Got home and felt something in my teeth.. what was it?? One of the flies.. wow. Just.... wow..

I have been going here for years. I have told every sushi lover i know about it. Loved the consistent well flavored food for a reasonable price. Sadly the older couple who owned it have now retired. We tried it tonight and sadly I will not be talking this up. They got some new window art of sushi that isn't even theirs. They raised the priced a noticeable amount. They got fancy dishes. They removed several of the dishes that made it worth the 30 min drive. The worst part is that they are skimping some now. More rice, less filling in rolls. No furikaka in rolls or on pieces. Different more sugery sauce. AND the wrost part is the rice. It used to be well flavored and just the right amount of sticky. Now it tastes like roundabout sushi place rice. Bland and overly sticky and a bit overcooked. I can't blame the cooks as they are the same cooks. It has to be a choice from the new owner. It breaks my heart when stuff like this happens. If your in the area it's still decent, but it's not longer drive across town good.

Sushi Kata is a long established Milwaukie Japanese kitchen serving truly authentic Japanese dishes at a reasonable price, even for the current economy!

I spent a number of years in various prefectures of Japan and Sushi Kata brings the flavors and quality of the food back to me each time I go there.

From the sashimi and nigiri, rolls and hand rolls, to the katsu curry and thick udon noodles. Sushi Kata is the best Japanese food experience you'll find in the Portland area. Others may have a prettier atmosphere, but if it's authentic Japanese cuisine you are looking for, Sushi Kata is the place.

Excellent portions, flavor, selection and service. Ambiance was decent. The thing that stood out to me was the service. We had drinks, soup, and salad before we even ordered. Overall, a great experience.

Sushi was warm and rice was not/under seasoned, fell apart before I could pick it up. Good portions for price.

I love the complimentary miso and salad.

Service was friendly and attentive.

I wasn't a fan of the nigiri (I'm super picky), but I really liked the taste and quality of the teriaki.

The pacing of the dishes was off - apps came out after the mains - but they also came out hot and fresh.

The favorite dish was the fried calamari - the most tender squid I've ever had.

I would recommend the cooked dishes over the fish.

This is the BEST kind of Japanese restaurant.. family owned, good quality food, a very nice variety of Japanese foods and not priced to break your budget. I want to keep going here to try everything on the menu! I got the Poke Bowl (salmon) and 2 pieces of unagi. My dining companion got a whole lot of things but most prominent was Dragon Roll and a creamy scallop which she enjoyed. Our server was extremely nice and food came up quickly despite it being lunch time. I want to try a lunch bento box or udon on my next visit.

Parking: Restaurant is in a little strip mall.. no problem parking

Solid experience every time with the sushi, poke and the best lunch deal in the area. I gave 3 for the atmosphere because they could use a little refresh after all these years
