A very unique sushi experience Sushi Mazi has uncommon pairings and an attentive staff. It is a small sushi restaurant that fills up very quickly set up in almost a galley configuration - two rows of tightly spaced tables. The staff was constantly going up and down dropping off plates and taking orders. They were very efficient. The sushi was hit and miss. Some of the classics were very good, but I will never understand putting a piece of matcha chocolate on a salmon nigiri. That was atrocious. The chocolate and raw fish combo was not good at all. Strangely, despite being not warm outside, inside it was incredibly hot. It was so warm that I had to leave a couple times during my meal to get comfortable again. The hall to the bathroom was not hot so it wasn't the overall building. I don't quite get why it was so warm. It was fine. I wouldn't not go back but I don't think I would seek them out.

Love love love EVERYTHING about Sushi Mazi. Food, absolutely delicious! My most favorites are classic aged ahi tuna, blue fin tuna top with black garlic, salmon skin appetizer and sushi salad. Will be able to stop in Portland without coming here. I understand why they have so many regulars, the staffs and owners are so warm and wonderful. Recommend trying their wide range of sake. Cheers!

They were quite busy, being down multiple staff members. I still thought the service was great. They were even apologetic for the wait and business. Any reasonable person will appreciate their effort.Food/drink:They have a very wide menu, I would say, for a sushi restaurant. Don't worry if someone you are with does not want sushi, or does not eat fish.They also have a pretty large sake selection, including nama, if that interests you.Tea was good (overly watery tea always bothers me!)Sushi: wide selection, good value, whimsical, contemporary feel, I would say.You can get what feels like, everything from rolls that feel very fusion, American-y; to straightforward clean nigiri; to some interesting specials.My preference is for basic, clean nigiri that focuses on the seafood.Overall I thought the sushi was quite tasty, if at times it was a little heavy on sauces.For example, I got:Unagi (eel) nigiri, which was delicious (and great value at $2.50). Partially cooked salmon, big cut. Raw onion. Miso mayo. Very, very intense sushi! There are layers to the flavor, at first the miso mayo is very intense. Then you taste the raw onion. You wouldn't expect to taste the fish, but the first flavors quickly fade and you get the fish. It's a ride.Aged toro salmon- interesting, never had aged fish before. It felt more rich, less fishy to me, than usual salmon. We ordered 1 spider roll, 1 crunchy green dragon roll, 1 avocado roll, seaweed salad, 2 miso soups, rice and an egg - with a side order of their homemade sriracha sauce -The food was very very good - high quality ingredients - taste was awesome - the spider roll had very well seasoned and crunchy crab - the eel and avocado on the green dragon crunchy roll was fresh and tasty - rice was done right - miso soup very deep savory flavor - the homemade sriracha sauce is out of this world the best I have ever tasted and I’m a pepper head - customer service was the best we have encountered anywhere - cozy clean well decorated atmosphere - we will for sure return and we highly recommend it they also have a grasshopper sushi which I have heard awesome opinions on

Good food for good prices. The grasshopper was a fun one to try as well. My only complaints are that the rice was too gummy and my yellowtail sashimi wasn't very fresh.

Absolutely delicious. Best sushi I’ve ever had in my life. The fish was so fresh and delicious we ate every bite. The appetizer was also very delish. It had a mushroom filling and came with sweet chili sauce. Definitely definitely would recommend and I will be coming back.

Everything about my experience here was 5 ?I enjoyed the cozy atmosphere, the kind waiters and chefs, and the delicious food! It was some of the best sushi I’ve had! I ordered the salmon lover roll, the rainbow roll, the banzai roll, and the salmon (sake) nigiri! This was an ultimate combination and I highly recommend ordering all of these!
