Restaurant itself is very nice, beautiful space and nice ambiance. Service was good - our server was quick, nice and made up for a kitchen mistake unprompted. 2 out of 4 cocktails were great.
Food was just fine, especially for Portland. The tempura and karaage were great and everything else somewhat forgettable. The black cod was the winner of the 3 entrees at the table. The ribeye, ordered medium, was well done and the salmon was meh. Maybe if you come for omakase it is better. Don’t feel the need to return but wouldn’t completely veto if someone else asked.

Mediocre Japanese food for a premium price. Maybe it was an off night.

First off, thanks to our host Sarah. She was great and helped us change our reservation. But that’s where the good part ended.

I’ve heard a lot of good things about Tabiki, so maybe tonight was just bad luck. We started with sashimi, unagi rolls, and shrimp tempura. The tempura was actually amazing — one of the best I’ve had. The sashimi was fine, and the sushi was forgettable.

Then the disaster began. The black cod came out completely burnt — it looked more like charcoal than fish. I can’t believe they even brought that to the table. The ribeye, which I asked for medium rare, was a total miss. The fatty parts were undercooked, while the outside tasted like burnt charcoal and old oil. They really redefined what “medium rare” means.

Our server was nice and offered a complimentary dessert and cod, but the experience was already ruined.

Also, parking is very limited, so plan ahead.

Honestly, for the same price, I’d rather go somewhere that serves real omakase.

Tasty ramen. But portion is a little small. For example the chasiu had only one piece. Came here on a rainy day during lunch and the heaters were a little lacking. Only outdoor tables were available despite the rain

This restaurant is opened by snow peak and the snow peak store is linked to the restaurant. So a nice walk around the store after lunch

I took the Omakase menu with a friend. Seven courses. The food flavor and art are great, but food choices (food materials and cooking style) definitely not worth ~$100/person.

Beautiful space, but service and execution missed the mark

We visited Takibi with high expectations and ordered the omakase for three (two adults and one child). The space itself is stunning, warm, modern, and very Portland, but the overall service and experience didn’t live up to the restaurant’s reputation.

We mentioned that we wouldn’t be doing the sake pairing due to having a minor with us and asked for drink recommendations. The server only suggested non-alcoholic options, and when I asked again for adult beverage recommendations, she simply repeated her earlier response. We ordered a sake flight and a dirty martini. Oddly, the server asked if I wanted a lemon twist or olive garnish, something I’ve never been asked with a dirty martini. When the drink arrived, it was completely clean with no olive brine flavor at all. I asked for a side of olive brine and mentioned the drink tasted too clean, and she let me know that the bartender was in training, which explained the mix-up.

We also requested the Wagyu upgrade for the omakase, but when it arrived, only one portion included the upgrade. When we asked, the server said we had only ordered one and that an additional piece would be an upgrade charge. We just brushed it off and continued with the meal.

Later, the server told us she was leaving for the night and that her assistant would take over, but she continued bussing tables for another 15 minutes, which added to the confusion.

Finally, when dessert arrived, I found a hair in mine. The assistant server offered to replace it, but at that point, I was ready to be done and just asked for the check. She returned and mentioned the drinks had been comped because of the hair, something I didn’t ask for but appreciated nonetheless.

Overall, Takibi is a beautiful space with a great concept, and the food had good moments, but the combination of service issues, miscommunication, and a hygiene slip made the experience fall short of expectations. It’s a place with potential, but the execution and attention to detail need improvement to match the setting and the price point.

We had a wonderful experience at Takibi. The interior is beautifully designed, giving the place a stylish yet welcoming vibe. We ordered the course for two — the appetizers were fine, but the sashimi really stood out with its freshness and flavor. The cod dish was absolutely amazing and one of the highlights of the meal.

The overall atmosphere was great — good music, cool energy, and definitely a spot worth checking out. Our server, Bryan, was awesome — attentive, friendly, and really made the evening special.

Only small note: the restrooms could use some reed diffusers to freshen up the space. Other than that, everything was excellent. Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for great sushi and a memorable night out.

Amazing atmosphere and service. My partner and I went out to dinner to celebrate our anniversary, and they went out of their way to make us feel especially welcomed on our special night. We tried a few different types of sushi and they were all great. The miso soup was also surprisingly well put together, not your typical premixed powdery concoction. We'll have to try the omakase next time!

It’s actually one of the very few omakase that makes me so filled! The value is +++. Food is very creative and for the first time Japanese omakase is not just sushi or sashimi anymore, but a well balanced blend of raw fish and cooked dishes. The best item is definitely their tempura zucchini! The snow chilled aged noodle is also interesting concept and worth the try! I was pretty chilled that day so I asked if the soba can be made warm and they are able to accommodate that as well.

Takibi - I’ve been twice, and each visit was wonderful in its own way.

My first visit was to celebrate my bday, where I enjoyed their late summer Omakase menu. I didn’t go for the usual sake pairing, but I did try several of their cocktails—and absolutely liked each one. The Omakase portions were generous; by the second-to-last course, I was already full! This wasn’t your typical sushi-focused Omakase either—it included a creative mix of noodles, meats, salads, and other seasonal-inspired dishes. It was such a thoughtful and imaginative way to highlight the late summer bloom.

My second visit was with my sister to try their lunch ramen menu. The broth was incredibly flavorful, savory, and satisfying, with a depth that felt like it came straight from simmered bones—without being overly salty or loaded with MSG. The noodles were cooked perfectly, with just the right bite. My only recommendation is to add a bit more protein in the bowl. But overall, the portion was generous, and every bite was delicious.

Whether you’re going for their seasonal Omakase or their comforting lunch ramen, Takibi delivers on creativity, quality, and flavor.

I had an incredible dining experience at Takibi with a party of three! From the moment we walked in, the service was top-notch — everyone was so welcoming and attentive. The food was absolutely stellar! Each dish was expertly crafted, bursting with flavors that left us wanting more. The sake and cocktail selection were also on point.

A special shoutout to Chef Scott and Bryan the bartender for going above and beyond. Both of them stopped by our table to personally check on us, which added such a personal touch to our evening. Their attention to detail and genuine care for the guests made the experience truly unforgettable. Highly recommend Takibi if you’re looking for amazing food, great service, and an all-around wonderful time!

This restaurant is expensive with small portions. This restaurant has some of the best Japanese food in Portland. Understanding these truths before you arrive will help you make the most of your time here.

Overall, the food quality is great, and the ambience is among the best in Portland.

Consider adding asparagus or pairing the fish with a seasonal vegetable for more balance. The cod is well-prepared, and the edamame is especially tasty.

Including a complimentary miso soup with the omakase would be a thoughtful touch. It's a small gesture that goes a long way.

Leaning more into the fire theme, since the restaurant is called Takibi, could really strengthen the concept. Sakana no shioyaki, yakiniku, yakitori, or robatayaki.

Get creative and differentiate from the many other Japanese restaurants in Portland. The quality is solid, but the dishes and overall concept don’t feel particularly unique.

Giving a low rating not because the food is bad, it’s not, but because the concept feels too similar to other Japanese restaurants in Portland. I think it has the potential to stand out more.
