With a fine selection of tamales available, you'll find something tasty. The Oaxacan mole is amazing, but I especially like the Norteño rojas and chicken tinga variety. The have a bit of spice and are very flavourful. The tamales are also quite large, and they feel like a great value.

overall the location is super cute and the carne asada tacos aren’t bad and very loaded. we did come a little later around 8, so they didn’t have/ran out of the chicken tamales we wanted so we had to switch our order. my partner has a lot of food restrictions so we were looking forward to the chicken. instead decided to get chicken tacos and the amarillo tamale. sadly highly disappointed. i’m a tamale gal, my aunt makes the best tamales so i may have high standards. we took our food to go, the size of the tamale is great, but the banana leaf and pickled onions made my tamale wet/a little slimy, the meat inside was a lot of fat and there wasn’t much going for it other than it was a bigger tamale and full of meat, i’m used to potatoes and carrots maybe some jalpeno, something with the beef. the flavor wasn’t really for me and neither was the smell (my have been the banana leaf and pickled onions combo). the chicken tacos were the most disappointing, we asked for no onion and i guess that means just a tortilla with a slab of chicken on it. we payed over $30 to come home eat one carne asada taco and then make ourselves cheese quesadillas. i tried a few bites of the tamale but couldn’t get over how moist the outside is. tried a few bites of the chicken and decided it wasn’t even worth it

I have eaten here many times. Everything I've tried is delicious. Today I ordered the prototype tamale. It is delicious but spicy for my taste. I didn't expect that. I'm not sure what on it is spicy. I asked for over hard eggs because I don't like runny eggs, they almost got it, the middle was just a tad runny but ok. Definitely try this place out!

Ordered Nachos -- just be sure to skip the jalapeños (way too hot). Lots of food, took home 3 plastic containers. There are a few seats indoors, but mostly you eat outside on picnic tables; have to get your own water and take-home containers -- so do that before they bring your order (because of flies). They close @ 9pm, 8pm on Sundays. Possibly the best Mexican food in NE Portland.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 10/10 – Absolutely Incredible!

We ordered from The Tamale Boys for a gathering of 20 people, and everything was phenomenal. With only 3 days' notice, they came through with an amazing spread that exceeded expectations in every way.

We had tamales, empanadas, salads, rice and beans, salsa and chips—and every single item was a ride on the flavor train . The tamales, in particular, were the star of the show. The masa was incredibly creamy, and the fillings were perfectly seasoned and salted. Truly the best tamales I’ve ever had. I’m not saying a lot because I live in San Francisco and eat tamales on the regular.

From the food quality to their ability to accommodate our last-minute request, The Tamale Boys delivered excellence across the board. Highly, highly recommend for any event—or even just a meal you won’t forget.

All outdoor seating and there are umbrellas/covers to keep the sun off you. Nice corner location with good air movement so it stays pretty cool unless it's over 100. I got the mango ceviche and it was pretty bad, but that's what I get for not getting a tamale 🤣. I just like seafood, so sue me 😁. They got the food out really quick too, so service was good. Was talking to the kid behind the counter for awhile, joking and laughing with the servers for a minute when they'd come by. The employees are awesome here and super friendly, check them out if you're on the fence. It's not fancy but the tamales are on point

It’s been years since I ate here except through catering but food is always delicious and consistent. The patio is nice and they have music in the summer

We’ve been here many times and love it. The last time was for brunch. I don’t remember what my dish was called but the description said it was “like a Mexican lasagna.” It was incredible. Their guac and chips are well worth the price, you just better really like guac. You order at the counter, find a seat in their heated patio, and they bring it out to you. Really friendly, fun place. Great for kids and dogs. Tables are benches. Depending on how busy it is? Wheelchair space at tables could be tricky. Portions are large.
