This place was highly recommended. The food was great, the service was good, but there was one specific interaction that ruined everything for me. I’m not sure if he is an owner, but if he is, you should treat your patrons better. Asking what part of Mexico your family is from should not be a reason to be rude, nor act like I asked something offensive and be snooty about it and walk off. As a paisano, I want to know about different regions and support my fellow paisanos, but snapping at me for asking? Maybe you shouldn’t be in the service industry. Beware of the guy in the picture.

Chorizo done right. Moving here from so-cal I have had many greasy, over spiced chorizo dishes. Here at Punales the tacos with chorizo con huevo and taco of chorizo con papa's were perfect. Great service as well.

I really want to like this place, in particular because it seems to be owned and run by Mexican or first generation Mexican-Americans. But unfortunately the food is bland and lazy. No depth in the seasoning (in fact almost no seasonings at all), no interesting salsas, not even fresh onion or cilantro to be found. If they could bring in just one abuela or vendor of street food from anywhere in Mexico to give them some guidance, they could be so much better. Just because we are on Belmont St in the whitest of white Portland doesn’t mean we can’t have a little flavor. Sorry. (They do at least make their own tortillas). Even gringo Mexican like porque no is better than this.

The tacos here are delicious! My favorite are the shrimp tacos, but I love them all! The people who work here are all super friendly and the food is served quickly.
Absolutely amazing tacos, yuca fries were so delicious. Great service and friendly staff. Got served by one of the owners and we just loved their energy. Beautiful space. Felt really homey. We will be coming back, new favorite spot.

My family loves everything about Taquería los Puñales and every single person I have brought here (and there have been a lot) has gotten hooked. The food slaps, the ambiance is cheeky and fun, the service is super friendly and accommodating, and it is a chill spot to bring your littles! They always get my kiddo's special order right, they let him sample as many juices as he wants, and when David is there he dotes on my kid like he's the most prized costumer, checking in on him and bringing him countless extra tortillas. Their passion for food and community just oozes through the place. Cannot recommend them enough!!

I popped into Taquería Los Puñales on a whim, and I'm glad I did! The folks who work there are incredibly friendly and helpful. The food was delicious. I had three tacos, two barbacoa jalisco style, and one poblano mole taco (I honestly could've eaten three more of these. It was especially tasty. ) Thank you so much! ? ? ?

Amazing tacos. Dozens of choices. And there are pictures. Pictures help you explore new taco ideas. And the staff could not be better. The guy explained every Taco detail. Chips and salsa were great too. Dining room was clean and comfortable. Plenty of seats although some tables were reserved.
