The food was great but the SERVICE?? The owner (who I think does everything, including cook and wait tables without any other staff at all) was very nice, but we waited an hour and 40 mins before any food came out. We then waited another hour to get the check AFTER we had finished eating. We considered leaving without paying because he was gone from the dining room for so long. Would never go here again, which is sad bc the vegan options were unique and yummy. Dude, you need to hire other people, you CAN'T run a restaurant with only one person.

Wonderful experience. From Chicago and visiting my daughter in Portland. The food was exceptional; the sausages, wurst, rouladen and all!! My daughter has celiac and trust me when I tell you that you give up ZERO by eating gluten free at The Slide Inn. FYI, none of us had ever tasted onion rings quite so good. Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful little restaurant.

Cozy and quaint! And the food ruled.

My partner and I met the creator of the menu - a very friendly dude! The fact that the menu is made to be interchangeable (in many ways) for both GF + vegan diets is absolutely awesome. My wife almost cried, having been able to once again eat some good German food, lol. Something she didn't realize she has been sorely missing since a Celiac's diagnosis so long ago!

Anyhoo, try the onion rings - the grease is 100% worth it.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at The Slide In, a small, authentic German restaurant that offers a truly unique culinary experience. This hidden gem is run entirely by the owner, who is not only the cook but also the waitress and host, depending on the time of day. Every item on the menu is made in-house, showcasing an incredible level of dedication and craftsmanship.
The sausages, made with natural casings, boast authentic German seasonings and flavors. The in-house mustard, with its whole seeds, is unlike anything I’ve tried before—truly a standout. One of the most interesting elements was the sauerkraut and cabbage. Rather than being fermented, it is cooked and has a sweet, almost delicate flavor, a stark departure from the tangy bitterness typically associated with store-bought versions. This creative twist really highlights the owner’s unique approach to German cuisine.
Even the burger buns and condiments, like ketchup, are made from scratch. The attention to detail and pride in every aspect of the food is remarkable. During my visit, the restaurant wasn’t very busy, so the owner took time to engage with us, offering recommendations and ensuring we had an authentic German dining experience. It was clear how much thought and effort went into every dish.
The prices are extremely reasonable, especially considering the unparalleled level of care and the fact that everything is made in-house. Lunch was an ideal time to visit, as the service was quick and personal. However, I can imagine that with more customers, wait times could increase given the owner’s multitasking responsibilities.
If you appreciate unique, high-effort, and handcrafted food, The Slide In is a must-try. It’s a fun and creative dining experience that highlights the artistry of German cuisine. I highly recommend it for anyone looking to try something out of the ordinary.

It looked closed when we arrived but don’t let that fool you. One of the best meals I’ve had in a long long time. And so reasonably priced! We had an appetizer, drinks, entrees and dessert - all quickly brought out by a seemingly one man show, and every single thing was incredible. Very gluten free friendly, my husband was thrilled. Thank you so much, we will be back the next time we’re in Portland!

Tbh, this restaurant looked from the outside like it was closed. I'm so glad we took a chance and went in. The food was really fantastic, and most of the menu had gluten free options available. I had the wiener schnitzel and apple fritters. Everything was perfectly seasoned and cooked. Service was excellent. This is the best experience I've had at a German restaurant.

Absolutely phenomenal. I got the Banana Bread French Toast with chocolate chips, Apple Fritters with 4 home-made syrups, Sausage Scramble, and the House-Made ginger ale, all gluten free and dairy free. Hands down the best food I have ever had to accommodate my gluten and dairy allergies. The owner Eugen is so thoughtful and is a fabulous cook. I WANT to eat myself sick here. If you don’t try this place, you’re missing out.

Dietary restrictions: Fantastic accommodation and tastes amazing.

Note to all Vegans. This restaurant does not use Vegan butter!!!

Something felt off about my toast, so I asked if the butter was actually butter or vegan on my vegan dish. The owner informed me that he only has dairy butter.

With that out of the way, the food itself was delicious once the issue was fixed and the restaurant was packed.

Personally, I would NOT recommend this restaurant to vegans. However, I do recommend this place to anyone wanting to experience some good German food.

Spent all day driving from Medford Oregon to experience a concert. Ended up not going due to traffic and decided check this place out. We got there later near closing time. The lights inside were off, but the open sign and ring bell for service were still present. We rang, and walked inside not knowing what to expect. A man from inside flicked on the lights and greeted us with a warm smile. From then the atmosphere was out of a studio ghibli film. The lighting, the food, and the owner all breathed life into a place that made my girlfriend and I feel a bit of magic. Eugene the owner was able to prepare each of our meals and drinks while also providing a well balanced interaction of alone time to sharing stories. You can tell Eugene puts all of his time and soul into a place like this. A needed refresher from the standardized order, consume, and pay eating services other establishments provide. This is a great spot! Not sure how this place got any negative reviews. Especially about the high food prices and dirty utensils. Everything was spotless for our experience, and the prices are well BELOW any other restaurant on the same level. The amount of gluten free options was another draw for my girlfriend. Would highly recommend anyone come visit and enjoy some of Eugene’s food. You won’t regret it.
