Drove 25mins to get here because I wanted to sing karaoke and play pool and eat steak. They were already closed at 12:45 on a Friday night, even though their posted hours outside say they should be open until 2:30am. Extra lame.

Well, this is a review is for what it was a couple of weeks ago. I would currently give it zero stars this place betrayed the entire neighborhood and what the Spot 79 has been forever. The new owners that have been there for a few years have completely destroyed this place. It is sad. It’s really sad to see people go into a neighborhood. They know nothing about and take something and destroy it. It will fail. It will fail unless it’s a family restaurant a.k.a. drug front like everybody gossips about. Sad but true, This iconic restaurant of Southeast Portland the newer owners of a few years (early 2020) decided to make it a “family, friendly” restaurant, get rid of the karaoke and drive what was left at the client tell that went there after it’s been going downhill and turned into a banquet. Gone bad. (A friend of mine said banquet gone bad, just kind of stuck with me) I’ve never seen a worse run restaurant/ bar in my life and I’ve lived in this town most of my life…decades. Famous for their steak and seafood Friday nights years back… There’s absolutely nothing on that menu. I would order thinking it was no more sitting in that walk-in cooler for probably a couple weeks I don’t see much food come out of that place in the food that I have seen coming that place is burned or taste like it’s burned because I don’t clean their fryer oil and the food is just not good not at all. I went to order steak or seafood at this place because of , it’s all about rotation and it doesn’t rotate. It’s really sad to see people that don’t live in this neighborhood come in and take over a business and then just completely destroy it. Something that’s loved and appreciated throughout this neighborhood for many decades and just completely destroy it. I mean shame on you guys seriously shame on you. …. You ruined one of the best places in Southeast Portland. It’s just disgusting. The food here has been really bad for a very long time but now the whole place is just pointless. The business opening up next-door will destroy What remains of the spot 79 and hopefully somebody else buys and reestablishes what it is actually supposed to be. Every single person who hung out there has no interest in ever going back you alienated entire group of regulars in a huge neighborhood and nobody’s happy.

So this place is turning into an all ages venue. As someone who’s been in the hospitality and restaurant industry for 25 years, This is the worst business decision I’ve ever seen happen. It was already going downhill, but you just lost all the clientele that you had and that was not really keeping you float after the food went downhill big time but now you’ve lost your moneymaker, which is your alcohol and your lottery and the karaoke. Had the food been kept the way it had been for many many many many years and attention to detail been put into ambiance and traditional food while keeping some of the original staff. This place could have been awesome. 3 months. Maybe 6 months and this place will be obsolete. Such a shame that an iconic place goes down in flames this way. Sad.

The bartender she is exactly the vibe I want to encounter when I go to a small bar late afternoon on a Sunday. Ordered food only to be told they were out of a bunch of things that my crew wanted. Lmao. So don't go there hungry lol

If I could give this place zero stars I would. I ordered a cob salad and was told they didn’t have chicken which I said fine, however, they didn’t include the avocado slices. For $13.95 I got some wilted lettuce , a tiny bit of bacon crumbles, half an egg “looks and tastes old” and a tiny bit of tomato. I’ve Ordered a Cobb salad from here in the past, and it was delicious, so this was quite the disappointed. I understand that the kitchen was taken over by Chinese chefs so maybe they should stop trying to make a Cobb salad or maybe they should try to stop making American food. Thankfully, the manager will give me a full refund.

Their takeout was why we came, and it was tasty and authentic. Great food.

This local small bar out on Foster has some of the best steam rice roll noodles I've had (besides in BC). I know it's strange that a bar would serve this. This place has a unique setup where their kitchen operates independently from the bar. They have an Asian menu (takes cash only) and then the regular bar and some bar item foods that go on a separate ticket. The lady serving us was super friendly to us and made sure we got our drinks and food order in. She made us feel invited and provided great hospitality. We ordered a good selection of food from the Asian menu. The steamed rice noodles were of perfect texture and thickness. It was very easy to consume. We also ordered a couple of noodles dishes. From the bar menu, we ordered some chicken strips. It's the best of both worlds if you're looking for a variety of food. I would definitely come here again.

This used to be a great restaurant, but not now. They hadn't even started our food order 25 minutes after we ordered. They have started a "side business" for cash only Chinese food. THAT takes priority over people actually sitting there to order. They've used a grease pencil to black out items on their regular menu that are no longer available. The owner was there, but was too busy playing pool.We won't be back
