I love that the Heathman restaurant is open again. The location is perfect for a quick bite to eat before the theater, but since everyone has the same idea, the place is crowded, and the service is a bit slow. The food options are limited! It would be so easy to offer at least a few "better for you" choices. My friend ordered a Caesar salad that arrived warm and swimming in salad dressing. I ordered a hamburger that was so greasy, I couldn't eat it. You can do so much better. The wine is a good value. I appreciate that.
The menu was quite limited and even worse for our 6 PM dinner, some things were sold out - so even less to choose from. I had ravioli with mushrooms. It was nearly tasteless. They were in a watery, bland broth. When I put my fork into a ravioli to eat it, the meager amount of some filling went right into the broth....lost, inedible. The mushrooms were okay. It was measily serving, hardly an entree portion. I had to order soup so I would not starve. My husband had the sirloin steak - okay, nothing special. The "sauce" was rather cool.... Overall, very disappointing. We will not return.
Expensive for what you get. $12 for bread and butter?! decent salad and the fish was good but the pasta was quite mediocre at best.
Serving staff were excellent. They were cognizant of the concert next door and asked if we were attending, ensuring that we were finished before showtime. Food and service were very good.
Decor was not enticing. Waitperson was polite to us but not the cook, who got my order wrong, and we could hear her chastise him. The salmon hash was underwhelming when it did arrive at table. They ran out of bloody mary mix.
Good was excellent - esp chicken and cauliflower dishes. Service was bad - clearly understaffed at the bar and with servers
Our only complaint was that the server seemed distracted - he disappeared for relatively long periods. I couldn't tell if he had a lot of tables, but we were there for lunch on Sunday and it didn't seem to be very busy. We both had the quiche and salad which was very good.
I love this place for weekend breakfast/brunch. It's a classic! And the full bar is a bonus.
Food was good but menu is limited. We typically eat here during the holidays and enjoy the seasonal decor
our server (did not catch her name) was super courteous, attentive, and polite, and the food was super yummy! i will be back:)

This place makes me feel offended by how disappointing it is. The service is not particularly friendly or timely. The food is NOT good. The two times I’ve come during this last year I’ve ached for the server to ask me how my barely touched food is, but she quickly says, rather than asks, “everything tastes good” as she walks past well after the food delivery, and it makes admitting the disappointment extra uncomfortable and too late. I worked up my courage the last time to tell her I wasn’t thrilled with my dish and she brought me something else but charged me for both. I felt funny about it after and left a voicemail at the restaurant, which was never returned.
Tonight our food was overcooked, dry, and bland. I left hungry. The beer I ordered wasn’t even a full glass. I tried the Heathman again because I thought maybe I had an off experience, but now it’s clear and I will never come back.

I came to the Heathman because I’m obsessed with Christian Grey, but I stayed because of the bartender Jackie’s excellent service, the tasty cocktail, and interesting Portland spirits info! I am very glad that I didn’t walk out immediately when a man (who I learned his name was Rhys) was rude to the hostess as he infantized her by tapping her elbow to get her attention while she was assisted a phone customer. Yet, he didn’t acknowledge our presence - he just walked away. It was unprofessional and unnecessary. Because as a (possible) leader in the restaurant, supporting the hostess and modeling appropriate behavior would have been more effective and representative of exemplary customer service. Thankfully, Jackie came over to assist and it was such a good experience! Thanks Jackie! I’ll be back in the summer to have that Prickly Texan!

My experience at the Tavern was saved by the incredible bartender, Jackie! I was close to walking out upon arrival. When I approached the hostess stand, a staff member was unavailable and did not greet me which is understandable because she was on the phone with who I presume to be a customer. However, a gentleman, whose name I later learned is Rhys, came up to hostess to reprimand her for slouching at the hostess stand and then proceeded to walk away. He did not greet my colleague and I; simply walked away without acknowledgment. Fortunately, the bartender approached us to greet us and offered to seat us. From this moment on, I had a pleasurable experience at The Tavern. I’m not certain the role this Rhys person has, but his demeanor and attitude towards customers is incredibly off putting and had it not been for the tremendous customer service provided by the bartender, Jackie, I would have left and never returned. Thank you for the tremendous customer service. From one Texan to another, I appreciate you. PS I highly recommend the burger! 10/10 delicious. Shout out to the cooks!
