The Vern is no longer the Vern, it had been tamed, gentrification, and that's fine----do we really need the smell of careless urine drifting out from the men's room as it did in 2013? The unexplained Ore-Ida box under the pool table? The Vern is an institution in the Inner SE and we'd be crazy to deride this steller dive bar even if it is a rom-com dive bar. The bartender had ironic chest hair and shades meant to appear from an am-pm but were actually probably expensive. Service is good, there are all sorts of deep fried delights so check it out and do what we did and also sample the Foreskin Brew Pub across the street (not the actual name, but the actual name is...Foreskin-esque)

Awesome food & drink selections.. It's also the Burning Man portland burners meetup bar every TUESDAY.. SPACIOUS..
Pinnacle Portland tavern experience. Where everybody is welcome. Big open interior with your standard pinball and video poker. Huge decorated bar with pleasant staff that dont take no shit. And a massive patio thats perfect for calm nights or for a smoke and chat.
Fried pickles lived up to the hype. Happened to be there same day as an art fair so got to enjoy some art in addition to the rest of the Vern vibe.

The Vern is located in one of my favorite areas in Portland, the Belmont strip. I guess you could call it. It was full but still comfy, of 30 somethings like myself all seeming to have a positive vibe while enjoying adult beverages and pub food. The service, and food were great and it hit the spot in my opinion. I'll be going back soon.
