Everything was just ok. For some reason, the burger patty was way over the dimensions of the bun? Sort of hard to eat, it all fell apart after a few bites. Onion rings were overcooked and sort of hard, but the fries and sauces were good. Drinks were tasty, and the atmosphere is nice if you don’t mind some louder music. The service was a bit of an issue. Our server was not very attentive, and she looked annoyed when we tried to ask questions about the menu and when we mentioned needing more time to decide on food. I don’t get the hype.

I’m proud of our neighborhood bar and all the national recognition it is getting, but I want to ask, “did the buns change in the last year.” They seem bigger and too bready. A smash burger should be compressible and soak up the grease and almost falling apart. This is the topic of endless speculation amongst others in the area.

Tried the burger & onion rings. The burger tasted like a greasy lettuce sandwich. The onion rings were good, but one order, you only get 3. Service was nonexistent, except for taking our order.

Any pork tenderloin sandwich is damned near impossible to find in Portland, OR, but I thought a good one was absolutely a fantasy.
I am at the Tulip Shop Tavern in Portland, Oregon.
There have been various iterations of the BPT around here over the years, but they were all but obliterated by the pandemic.
But, the cream has risen to the top.
This place has a not huge, but reliably 1/4 inch pounded pork loin. I didn't know what seasonings are in the dredge, but I assume they are hoarding that secret with the same enthusiasm as the Colonel does guarding his eleven secret herbs and spices.
It fries up, retaining its juicy, porky goodness, super crispy and flavorful without any greasy detractors. It's just freaking good.
Shredded lettuce, pickles, and shaved white onions are about perfect. It's served with what they call, "Coleman's, mustard sauce." They can call or whatever they want, but it should be mandatory on any BPT.
The onion rings are another thing unto themselves. Huge. Thick. Molten on the inside, insanely crispy on the outside, yet somehow, not greasy. I got the curry ketchup to drag them through.
I've eaten these things from one side of the country to the next. They have nothing to be ashamed of.

Food was good but don't think I've ever waited so long in an empty bar for food.

Workers were very kind and great, but the music was so loud and shrill that I couldn't hear my friend talk, outside and inside, and it physically hurt to listen to the music. Food took quite a while to come out.

The burgers, the onion rings, and the corndog, are oof!
Let me preface by saying I absolutely love Tulip Shop’s food, however when I called to place an order tonight I had a horrible interaction with one of the gentlemen answering the phone. Grilled me on why I didn’t want the house special sauce on a burger, and continued to question my order choices while snickering rudely at my answer. I finally had enough and decided to end the order and take my business elsewhere. I get it’s a busy joint, but no customer deserves to be treated like dirt.

Tulip has the best example of a smash burger in Portland. Eater.com listed this eatery in their best burger in Portland list. We visited on Saturday night and street parking is a bit challenging. It's a no reservation, seat yourself place but we fortunately found a couple of seats at a long narrow table that spans the front window. Tulip has an excellent bar stocked with superb base spirits, mixers and liqueurs. The mixologists take pride in their work. We enjoyed the drinks and especially the burgers. I ordered a "Double Double" (no relation) with bacon, grilled onions and fried jalapenos. The edges were thin, crispy and delicious. Some smash burgers have a bit of that but Tulip is the poster boy for smash burgers. We ordered fries but my wife and I didn't care for them. Yet my daughter thought they were fine. The prices all around are very reasonable. The only negatives were 1) When we ordered we were told the kitchen is an hour wait. 2) The Music is very fast, lots of attitude and a bit loud (it's that kind of bar). 3)The king cube in my drink was smaller and not crystal clear like those served at the better craft cocktail bars. To be fair, I'm a cocktail snob. This is a solid joint. PRO TIP: Patty melt Monday-only special. We'll be back. Check out my profile for more great eateries and craft cocktail bars. ✌?

Have visited twice and can say for certain this isn't Portland's best burger.
There's nothing wrong with it. But a chain like McMenamins does a better burger.
Service isn't great either. They should probably switch to QR codes for ordering.

Had heard really great things and was disappointed. Food was fine, not great. It took forever and was loud.
