As someone who lived in Tokyo, I appreciate the difference between good Japanese food and authentically good Japanese food. This food hit that spot. It was a busy Friday night, but worth the wait.

We were the jerks who showed up right before close. The staff were gracious and very accommodating. Lovely spot we will go to again.

Came here for happy hour and was able to be seated right away. It was summer time so we sat in their breezy patio area. We ordered a few items from the HH menu and regular sushi menu. The fish was fresh. Our service was fantastic! Pro tip: HH is all day Sunday.

Highly recommend! Great selection of whiskey (Japanese) and the sushi is 9/10 for the price. Bartender was very friendly. Small joint, but very rustic/hip. Ownership did a great job decorating!

It's hard to justify going here with saburo so close. The prices are misleading because the portions are quite small and a lot of the rolls came falling apart. My standards might be too high because I got back from Japan recently, but I wouldn't recommend going here for the sushi. The drinks were good but expensive and the server was also really busy and not very attentive. Do not rec

Good service. Great food - karage was amazing. Wonderful drink selection. Small and quaint seating which is a great ambiance. My favorite place since moving to Portland.

The funkiest sushi restaurant I've ever been to! Feels like part Tavern/part Sushi house and I love every bit of it!It's a very rustic, cozy place that's very comfortable to hang out in. They have a few small tables and a few large tables. They also have a rather large bar with plenty of very comfortable chairs with high backs. There's also a large, wonderful patio for when the weather turns nice again. In addition to a nice selection of Sake, they also have a fine selection of local beers and a very creative cocktail menu. I had the Indigo nights and it was delightful! We enjoyed everything we ate. The sushi was great quality and I really enjoyed the Salmon roll, Ginger-chicken musubi, and the salmon and tuna Nigiri. We also had both desserts, the Sweet Sesame Balls and Tempura Donuts, and they were scrumptious. Service was very kind and attentive. It's also easy to get to and find street-parking. I'm really looking forward to going back!

Not very good sushi or service. It feels like this place wants to be both a sushi restaurant and cocktail lounge but can't really do either compared to the competition

My favorite local sushi bar. Dark dim romantic vibe, with what feels like your in an old ship somewhere by an island. Fun specials and the karaage is amazing. Bartender is fantastic.

Beautiful sushi resturant, decent food kinda on the pricer end. Unique menu with lots of options I hadn't heard of. Service was slow but the place was packed so I don't blame them, it was just a long wait.

Love this place! I always go for Sunday "happy hour". Food is fantastic. I love their California rolls and gyoza. Super fresh, and always delicious. Atmosphere is fun but relaxed. Cute little outdoor patio available too!Dietary restrictions: A lot of good choices for gluten free people!

People should travel to visit this place. Great cocktails. Amazing food. Extensive list of Japanese Whiskeys. Somehow I lived in Sellwood for over a decade without noticing it. Now it will be a regular spot for us.

Came with colleagues and made reservations for outside. It was absolutely the best LocationOur servers were attentive and helpful. We had the jalapeño tuna poppers and gyoza dumplings. Both were tasty. We shared a platter of sushi including Sellwood Roll, Shrimp Tempura, Spicy Salmon, Funky Tuna Roll, Crab California Roll, Poke RollWe finished the meal with the sweet sesame balls and Tempura Donuts to share. I also had the spicy margarita and it was excellent. A great spot with excellent service, food and drinks.
