El Mezcalito Mexican Restaurant and Cantina

If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. We showed up with a group of 11, and Mike (nickname) was the only person working.

He treated us like family and served us family style. We didn't even order. He brought what he knew we would love, and he was spot on. 3 types of meat, cheeses, toppings, hand-made guacamole, beans, etc, etc.

Everything was authentic, with explanations on how each was made and the story behind everything.

He even brought a tub of various drinks and waters and put it between us. Very easy to see who ate and drank what.

Because we had the place to ourselves, he sat with us, and we talked for a long time, laughing and sharing stories.

If every place had a "Mike", they would get 5 stars consistently.

Mike: Thank you for your kindness, service, genuine desire to make sure we felt welcome, and for your amazing and quick cooking skills. The food was as awesome as you.

To the owner: Don't ever lose this guy, he is an amazing find. He is part of our extended Irish family now, and he is the reason why we will be back every time we are in Salem.

Yesterday was my high school graduation and we decided to stop here for a celebratory dinner, the sign said open but the main door was locked, my uncle then saw a nice gentleman that happened to work there named Mike, who despite being the only employee there, opened the restaurant just to serve my family. Mike cooked and served us all by himself and did an outstanding job, serving us a variety of meats, cheeses, beans and salsas as well as drinks, and on top of that held an amazing conversation with us all and gave us lots of laughs. I'm blessed to say that my graduation will be one of my favorite memories for awhile, thank you Mike for making it so amazing ??

We showed up, Mike was there and helped us, had a group of 11 of us, not only did we have an amazing experience but he went above and beyond. Said he’d treat us like family and did. The food was amazing! The service is amazing . We were in Salem for a graduation… my husband and I are from st. Helen’s and plan to make the drive to return.His service from ordering, food and conversation was all above and beyond.

We pulled up and the sign said Open, door was locked but there was a nice gentleman in the kitchen. We had a large group after a graduation and he opened the door for is to come in. We were able to rearrange the tables to sit comfortably, and we had a short conversation with our new friend named Mike.Well let me tell you, Mike was AMAZING tonight, we didn't want to make it difficult for him with our menu choices so we asked him what would be easy. He let us know he was going to treat us like he was making food for his family and we were awarded an authentic Mexican spread of meats, tortillas, fresh made guach and salsa, some fried mozzarella cheese that was good enough to fight over, and my favorite was the beans and chips. Our whole group left there, full, satisfied and had some to-go boxes. An absolute treat for the evening and graduation dinner.Mike you are our new favorite server, cook and conversation person. Thank you very much we will be back my friend.

As far as Mexican restaurants, that is a sit down establishment it was okay. There are plenty of other better Mexican restaurants in the Salem area. The one person helping me, did an awesome job being attentive and very kind as well as courteous. I believe they might have been alone and/or cooking alone as well. I couldn’t tell, I didn’t go look in the kitchen. The food was below average, the chips were stale, and the serving size below average. The corn tortillas were slightly burnt. The atmosphere was more akin to a bar. I have no intention on going back, I wish them well.

We ordered the michelada with Victoria was delicious, margaritas are made with fresh fruit and the Paloma is AUTHENTIC and yummy. The beef fajitas comes with cheese on it it’s delicious. great service. And hospitality.

Looking for a good place to eat, I stumbled across this place, seeing a “Now Open!” sign in the front of the restaurant. I decided to give it a try because it’s important to support small businesses, at first i read some reviews, some good and some bad but first hand, this place is special and they put a lot of love into the food they make, the service was better then expected and the conversation we had made my day. On top of all that, now I can say I helped create an amazing dish, the LunaSol Burrito, come try it, I promise you won’t regret it, you might just have to order another !

Great people behind this restaurant and decent food. The service was fast and very friendly. Prices are a little expensive, but I got a good amount of food for what I payed for. Overall I had a good experience with my family.
