Really good tortillas that they make in the kitchen. Tortillas are the reason we go to Los Baez. Having lunch was covid safe. The server was fast and friendly and pretty.
Can I please leave 10 stars!! Amazing food and service!! This is the best Mexican food around and it seems like it keeps getting better!!
Ordered 2 fish tacos, a shrimp taco, chile relleno and a bottled coke. Server quickly asked me if I was sure I want to do that because it's very expensive to order alacarte. I asked him how much per taco and he says everything is $8 a piece including the chile relleno. I said you're right that is expensive, but how good are the fish tacos? I then asked is it homemade, do you fry the fish and batter it here? He replied yes everything is made here and we batter the fish. I then said OK well if that's the case I'll go ahead and order exactly the way I did. So the plate arrives and I instantly knew that he was so full of it.. The tortillas are not homemade they are storebought and the fish is obviously battered frozen prepackaged fish. All they did was drop it in the fryer. I waited for the server to reappear and pointed at the fish and said there's no way that is battered here and he replied yes it's battered here. I then informed him that I was a culinary expert with 2 decades of professional experience. He then replies well I'm not a chef.Fraud is a big thing. I cannot let this one go. You can't claim your making stuff from scratch and hand battering your fish when you are not. This is something the Department of Justice definitely needs to hear about.
Always friendly and welcoming. Enjoyed the Angel dip and a bottled beer while I killed some time. I was checked on often and surprised to see my bill was under $10 total! Still somewhere that is reasonably priced!
Had been years since I ate here. Food used to be great but it has seemingly radically changed It tears at me to leave this review of los Baez because I do know the owners, but a friendly smile isn't what I'm eating.Bottom line:The dinner I had tonight was simply badI ordered $60+ of food last night that was perhaps the worst restaurant food I've eaten in recent memory..Quality has simply fallen off a cliff.Poor quality, skimping in everything, clumpy chunky rice, dried out beans, lacking cheese, missing onions, and stale lettuce. That was just my chimichanga. All 4 dishes were equally off..Food seemed as if it came off a warmer at a low quality Mexican buffet.Normally I'd give a place a one day pass and chalk it up to a off day but this was such a lousy meal I won't be back..Frankly it felt as if I donated $60 as we chucked most of the food and our family ended up cooking at home instead.
*Semi-Recommended*The food is good, service is fast but the amounts are small. When they say a scoop of rice and scoop of beans, think of 1 ice cream scoop size for the 2$ - 4$ for the rice and beans serving sizes.Enchiladas sauce is good but sort of tasteless, serving size of the enchilada was decent, if you have a big stomach you might need 2-3 enchiladas just to be full.Enchilada sauce is like a broth that was thickened with flour.Customer service:Its ok could use some work, a little rushy type of service and needs a little more work on taking orders.Parking lot: easly accessible.Male Bathroom: old, dirty and door to the toilet can close but does not line up to be able to be locked.
Their food is homemade...sodelicious! The staff are greatand it's very clean.
Wowee... has been a minute since I’ve eaten here and I’m guessing new owners?? Did not even want to order anything after walking in to absolute silence, one very strange menu and filthy restroom ☹️ I’m outta here folks!
Hands down the worst food I have ever attempted to eat. I also find it hilarious that every time someone gives an honest review resulting in 2 or less stars, someone (undoubtedly friends of or the owners themselves) comes in almost immediately with another fake 5 star rating and nothing to say. The food is terrible, service terrible and the restaurant is dirty. Let’s see how long it takes for that next fake 5 star rating. ?
They are the best! We had my birthday dinner there with 20 people and they were-awesomeness !

$60.00 meal.
Haven't been to this location in a very long time and it was just how I remembered it. Great service and great food.
Service was terrible. Waitress did not check in often and they got distracted easy
I have to wonder who the people are that rate this 5 stars and if they’ve ever eaten at a restaurant before. Tried this on the spur of the moment tonight and was not impressed. The chips were over salted, salsa was just watery diced tomato and the bowl it came in had salsa smeared all over the outside like it had just been dipped in a vat of salsa to fill it and not wiped off. The refríed beans were over cooked and almost solid. My chimichanga was ok but the chicken had no seasoning at all and was bland. The chille relleno had soggy weird breading type substance piled on top and there was so much soupy liquid on the plate that it coated everything. Not much in the way of redeeming qualities and there is definitely way better Mexican food in Salem....even Taco Bell has it beaten by a mile.
Honestly, this was a bittersweet experience, being my closest Mexican place and first time. Both of our different meals were very “soupy,” and the sauces had a clear taste of chicken broth. Gross! And the chips were definitely stale. The drinks were great, though, as was the service. After, I felt like they were trying hard with the service to make up for the food quality. I assume this is because of COVID difficulties, so I’d consider coming back. Still, I might want to see a new chef in the kitchen or new management. I love Mexican food, and this was terrible! Please fix it!
