Our waitress was Casey and we were seated in the bar. The food was amazing. This was our first experience and we will come back with our a doubt. Desert we to die for as well. I will recommend this place.
My family made reservations for the 9th of January to celebrate my daughter’s birthday. I mentioned while making the reservation that we were celebrating her. When we got to our table the rest of the night consisted of horrible food and service. The server was never informed of our celebration, the steaks were too salty and not cooked correctly, and the lobster was mushy and tasted fishy, not fresh. When it came to dessert the server couldn’t even get a candle to put on my daughter’s cake. My husband tried to order coffee, and they had none. I’ve never been to a fine dining where we paid over $600, that couldn’t get you a candle or coffee! In the end the server never tried to make things right. I don’t recommend this place.
Don't be fooled by the people coming in with less than casual dress. This is fine dining. The food is excellent the staff is superb. If you must wear running shorts go to McDonald's.
I enjoy their HH for quick after work meetings with lots of fine choices. At a later time, the dinner would be more relaxing, but I have to get up early. The servers really work hard to make sure you don't run out of a drink, and you have the food as soon as possible. We like to sit outside - and it is a nice option.
We ordered sirloin off the main menu, and several items off the Happy Hour menu (prawns, mushrooms sauteed in butter and garlic, prime beef medallions) and ended with an amazing slice of moist chocolate cake. The food was very tasty, though the sirloin seemed a bit more salty than I'd prefer. We loved their house steak sauce, too!
The menu prices are too high at this restaurant for what you get. I ordered a salad with grilled chicken, it was $28, and what I got was a 1/2 plate of romaine lettuce with tiny chunks of green apples and a small piece of chicken. It was disappointing to say the least. The crab cakes have shrunk at least 1/2 in size compared to what they used to look like. For a $54 plate, there was a few pieces of asparagus. The baked potato was the only hearty thing on the plate. They have shrunk their sizes down on everything and prices are up at least $10 a plate from what they used to be. Their quality has decreased from when we first starting going to this restaurant. We used to like to come here for birthdays, special occasions, but not likely not returning. We sat for almost 15 minutes before we got the server to come over. I get inflation is affecting everyone, but I really felt like we overpaid for what we got. It was a $200 plus bill.
Overall...First time disappointment. My husband and I were there to celebrate my birthday. While the ambiance of dining was nice and waiter service was good, the food was not. Unfortunately half of the menu was not available because “they ran out,” as well as the wine we were interested in trying. We found another alternative to our drink and entree selections. Our food came out in a timely manner, though the quality of food did not match the price- it was all fairly good, edible. Unfortunately, my husband's steak was not prepared med-rare but more medium-done, while the waiter did offer him to have kitchen remake, we declined- we were half way through our meal at that point and the flavor, taste, and quality of meat was not good. We did enjoy the complimentary marianberry cobbler dessert for my birthday, though they ran out of candles for me to blow out and make a birthday wish. One thing I do wish, we would have chose another dining experience to celebrate my birthday. Needless to say, I cannot imagine us coming back.
Fabulous Service. Steaks were perfectly cooked, we loved them. Salmon entree was overly seasoned and not great. We were a bit chilly on the patio in October but that was our choice. Overall I would say the staff at Rudy's is what made our service experience 5 stars. What a wonderful team, I wish I would have remembered their names because I would mention them here for sure. I know a bit about opentable and I'm sure management knows who are servers were and they are to be commended. Good job Rudy's! Thanks for doing it right!
The service and overall experience was very good. Nice to be seated by a window, albeit on an alley with low riders and very sketchy looking people walking by right by the entrance to the restaurant. Curtains would've been a nice obstacle. My husband‘s primary was terrific! My fillet was not nearly as good as I expected. A little on the dry side and a touch, but barely overcooked. Would not have been as dry if it had been cooked perfectly.

We were celebratingg my wife's birthday with some of her sisters and brother. The service was excellent as was the food. We tried a variety of foods. One items that was surprisingly great were the Brussell Sprouts - cooked in a very unique and tasteful way.
We have really enjoyed Rudy's in the past and will be back again, but today's visit was a bit off. It was chilly inside, at 1pm, and this is always a problem for my wife. The server said they had adjusted the temp, and it seemed to help for a bit but not for long. Not a of people there at the time, but the server was a bit slow in taking our orders and the follow up and then the bill. Very nice and personable woman, so don't know if there were other things slowing her down that we couldn't see. Food was just OK. Seafood melt for appitizer was just too cheesy, on a hard crusted bread that was hard to cut. Not sure why there was a cheese type sauce for dipping or on top of it. I had the burger with mushrooms and grilled onions. A large patty, but overall a mess of a production that had to be cut up to eat. Side of fries was a large portion and way too large for me. My wife had the small 6 oz Prime Rib which was larger than expected and was cooked just fine. Overall I would say we had high expectations today, for our anniversary, and they weren't really met. Had this been most other spots in town the review would be 4 stars and not 3. We expect more from Rudy's.
We had a fabulous dinner and experience for my husband's birthday. Entrees ordered were: chicken Marsala, salmon, prime rib, and smoked salmon pasta. Servings are generous and delicious!
We went to Rudy's for my wife's birthday. I wasn't starving, so I elected to have a smaller steak, the small top sirloin. My wife usually has the salmon, but went with the stuffed Portobello mushroom instead. Both were very good. I had the clam chowder as an appetizer. It was excellent. I think Rudy's has the best clam chowder in Salem. The service was excellent.
Our server was very patient with our table ordering - negotiating for vision impaired 94-95 yr olds takes some patience and she was that and more. She returned to ensure we were able to order when ready.
