About SOB Brewery Smokehouse

SOB Brewery Smokehouse offers some of the best BBQ in Oregon, with a standard brisket that is well-seasoned, tender, moist, and features a good bark with medium smoke. The ribs are phenomenal, boasting good smoke, richness, and are nearly fall off the bone with a decently balanced sauce on the side. The flank steak is flawless and so tender it can be cut with a plastic knife, featuring great seasoning, mild smoke, and a peerless chimichurri sauce.

Chicken is also a highlight, with a super smokey bone-in and skin-on leg that is recommended to be balanced with sides or shared. Tacos are fantastic, especially the chicken, which is not tough or dried out as is often the case. Pulled pork tacos are good, and sometimes they are changed up. Asada tacos are decent with a bit of chew. Pork belly tacos are a favorite when diced, though strips do not blend flavors as well. The salsa, or hot sauce, is flavorful with solid heat, so testing your personal level is advised.

Among the sides, the esquites are well-sauced and seasoned without being watery. The beans are great, though they can vary. The pizza is described as a bit bready and basic, and lamb tacos were very gamey.

The service is always fantastic and fast. The 90's-2000's playlist is appreciated and nostalgic. The beer selection is very good and surprisingly varied, with other brands on tap beyond their own brews, plus a few ciders. Seating is mostly hard surfaces, so food to go might be suggested for comfort. Decor is spartan, featuring board games, a car hood, a Pac-Man arcade table, and TVs playing sports. The open-concept kitchen allows diners to see the smokers and brewing equipment.

The pulled pork quesadilla, corn, and beans were very tasteful with a little kick. The ribs were also delicious. The brisket and barbacoa tacos are considered the best in Salem, with great portions, fresh tortillas, and the right amount of spice. The atmosphere is relaxed, ideal for street tacos and good beer.
