I'm not sure why in my mind I expected a mediocre experience but man was I wrong and glad of it.

My wife and I stopped in for lunch and got the French Dip and Santa Fe Chicken Panini. We split them so we were able to both try two different sandwiches and they were stellar. The French Dip was the best I have ever experienced, even beating my own cooking as well as the Panini brought together flavors in a manner which I had never tried before and it was refreshing. All the wait staff were amazing and some even dressed up for the holiday spirit!

I'd highly recommend to anyone doubting this as being special to give it a try because I believe you'll be happily proven wrong.

Our family always loves eating here!
They just remodeled this place. It is so much brighter and spacious!
If you happen to find yourself in Washington Square, this is literally the best place to eat in the mall! You will not find better (and friendlier) service anywhere! I found out that all of their food is made from scratch every morning in the kitchen!

Absolutely yummy cheeseburger. No fuss- just meat, cheese, and pickles. The side salad with the garlic champagne vinaigrette is amazing. I took a bottle of it to go!

Each person I came in contact with was friendly and helpful, and they even gave me eye contact which is sorely lacking in today’s retail world.

My only complaint is the atmosphere. Please turn down those lights! Too much of a cafeteria vibe and if you took out a few of those light bulbs the charming view of the mall (which is what your seating is catered to) would be more apparent.

I used to dine at the cafe in Corte Madera and the vibe here is the same, just bad lighting.

I have eaten in several cafe's across the country and order the exact same thing and I have had this dish at this Nordstrom several times, the Turkey Club sandwich. It's my go to and have ordered it for years. Either Nordstorm has changed the sandwich for the worse or they were out of or low on ingredients. My lady ordered the pasta and meatballs and the food came out super quick, like never have Nordstrom served food that fast and the lady was like, yeah they were back there waiting. My sandwich was way short on Turkey so either Nordstrom told them to be stingy with it or the chef didn't know how to make it, the avocado had lots of brown spots, the bread was not toasted properly and almost was like it was not toasted at all and lastly, the mayo stuff didn't have any flavor to it at all....again I've had the sandwich a ton of times but that was probably my last time. The bread comes out cold also, but it was good and we had wine.

Parking: Yo, if you park in the covered Nordstrom garage, don't be an idiot trying to fit your big ass SUV that only goes to malls into those small compact spaces. Either go find uncovered parking elsewhere in the mall or take your ass all the way up top where there is usually plenty of parking.

The three stars are only because the complimentary bread and butter were great. Otherwise, the lemon pesto chicken gnocchi was too bland and the water cup I received had a LIPSTICK STAIN on it. I expected a lot more for the $20 lunch and just from Nordstrom all together.

They don’t stand up for their employees at all, they let kids come in without parents and call you like a dog.( here doggie I’m a busser doing what I was hired for and not dealing with the customers for 20 years) Then complain and and get free everything. I’m looking for new employment now before another douchbag comes in.

LOVE norstroms cafe and great servers. Wish they would get tables for group more then 4 ended up pulling a chair up to the table from another table, where someone else was seated later and they ended up having to get a chair from somewhere else

Nordstrom decided to "upgrade" their menu, and just about wrecked the place. The Tuscany roast chicken went from two pieces to one piece, to one smaller less tasty piece. The lovely roast potatoes that came with it are now replaced with some fubar grain. Classic case of a chef stretching his creativity to the detriment of the food. Today I had the French dip. The beef was a travesty, horribly over spiced (pepper and garlic?), and severely overcooked; not even a hint of beef flavor to it. The bread (roll) was excellent. Aside from Ranch and Caesar, their list of salad dressing is laughably pretentious nonsense. I chose Caesar, and it was was inedible. Got a bite close to my mouth, but after one smell I put it back on the plate untasted. Good Cherry tart (with a pretentious name). Excellent chocolate chip macadamia nut cookie. Service was great. (As is usual here, despite the idiotic practice of ordering and paying up front, sitting down, having to pay again if you decide to add dessert or another glass of wine, etc. Moronic at best.) The new chef or new manager has wrecked what was once a favorite place, good for twice a week on my list. I will be back, but only when they have Strawberry shortcake, and only for that. I want to reiterate, they have a GREAT STAFF! This botch job is fully on management and executive chef. Creative cooking and creative menus can be both fun and delicious, but creativity without a talented guiding hand end up... like this. They will probably throw me out next time I show up. I go there enough that my comments will be recognized. C'est la vie.

This is one of the best places to eat in the entire Portland area, but it hides itself in a mall. If you can brave the stale, hyper-consumerism of a department store, you're in for a treat! Hint: don't skip dessert. :)
