Our experience with the buffet lunch on a mid-week day in late June was very disappointing. We made a point to stop for this buffet on a trip home from Sunriver after having a great experience with the restaurant two years ago. The quality of the food wasn't necessarily bad, but certainly not worth the $32 per person that we were charged. The main issue I saw was poor management of the operation. Food items were not very high quality and not being replenished at the rate expected. Servers seemed to be seasonal workers and either not properly trained in managing tables or just poor workers. The waffle maker wasn't working properly and created more of a mess than an edible waffle. All in all, it was just a very bland experience, and we all felt it was not worth the effort we made to get there. It's too bad. The Lodge is a great spot to visit, and the area is interesting to explore, but if it's not worth eating there we can make the pit stop in Government Camp instead. If the property is under new management, then be warned... real damage is being done to an iconic brand.
What a disappointment! We made reservations and drove all the way from Portland for a special occasion Sunday brunch with our family. We hadn't realized that it was a buffet - but thought - no problem who doesn't like a buffet? Well, once we got up to go to the buffet there weren't any plates. It took awhile to track down a server to bring plates - once they did they were wet and still dirty. Once we had clean plates and started through the buffet line all the food was picked over and cold. Our waitress disappeared and we had to ask multiple times for coffee and water refills -finally finding a water pitcher to refill our own water. Timberline was once a very special place - our family practically grew up there when it was still a ski lodge and we even got married at Silcox Hut. What is going on Timberline ???
Slow service, over priced food, no variety and cold food.
I was searching for a steak place in the area for dinner when this place popped up. I decided to give it a try, but it turned out to be an absolute disappointment. Save yourself the time and money.
When I arrived, there was a long line outside. When I signed in for a table, I was informed that it would take 45 minutes to sit at the bar area or over two hours at the dining main area. I opted for the bar setting.
While waiting for my table, my friend and I were in another line for over 30 minutes to get a drink. Meanwhile, people were cutting the lines and helping themselves to tables, while others waiting in the line. I was shocked.
I ordered a glass of red wine for myself and a cocktail for my friend. To my surprise, we paid $40 for two drinks. Finally, we were seated at the back corner of the dining room, which was dark and depressing (I felt like I was in dungeon)
When I asked why I couldn’t see the steak on the menu, the waitress informed me that they didn’t serve the same menu at the bar settings. After waiting so long, I decided to order one of their seafood dishes. However, after a while, the waitress returned and said they were out.
I left hungry and disappointed. I decided not to stay any longer in this disorganized and unpleasant place.
The girl who checks people upfront has no skills or customer service attitude. The bar staff is incredibly slow, making me question their ability to make drinks. I’ve never seen a long line at the bar with such slow movements. TS A people are doing a better job of moving the line than this place.
The lodge is old and overcrowded. If you’re looking for comfort and peace, this is not the place for you.
Scallops were undercooked and fishy and only get three for $58. My son got the “New York striploin. No such thing. They’re trying to push off top sirloin on you and calling a strip steak. It even looked like top sirloin. Nobody like anything about there meals. Will never go back.
Do not eat here. Bad cafeteria food for fine dining prices. We couldn’t stomach more than half the plates for $179 for two people. Insane. They need to step it up or stop doing business— unacceptable in every way.
Had one of the best breakfast buffets of all time this morning at the Cascade Dining Room within the Timberline Lodge. Everything was fresh, the meal offerings were unique, and the service was fantastic. We couldn't recommend this breakfast experience highly enough!
We had lunch here, but the dishes were overly creative and ended up being just okay. Later, we attended another lunch buffet during ski season where the food was both good and tasty. It featured fresh vegetables and fruits, along with delightful waffles topped with real cream—it was absolutely delicious.
We arrived at Timberline Lodge on the first evening of snow, greeted by the cozy glow of fireplaces warming the lodge. After a day filled with sightseeing and hiking, we were ready for a hearty meal, and friends had highly recommended the Cascade Dining Room.
Our friendly waiter seated us and suggested their top dishes, including the Grilled Northwest Beef, Braised Lamb Shank, and a Crab Cake appetizer. Everything was spot on! The portions were generous – we could have easily shared a single entrée. The beef was perfectly cooked, tender, and bursting with flavor, while the lamb shank was deliciously rich and fall-off-the-bone tender. These comforting dishes warmed us right up.
To end the night, we shared a skillet cookie with ice cream, the perfect sweet finish. The view from our table was magical, with snowflakes sparkling in the light just outside the window. Cascade Dining Room made for a perfect evening – great food, warm ambiance, and unforgettable views. Highly recommended!

We had dinner and our server Jessica was awesome! She was attentive and kind. The meal was delicious and I particularly loved the NY steak (cooked perfectly and tender) and the chocolate chip cookie dessert.

Our dinner was arguably the best part of an overnight stay at the lodge. The service by Jessica, plus the sommelier was excellent. Our three appetizers, the beet salad and shrimp and crab cakes, were excellent. The Chardonnay was full bodied and well priced. The mains, steak and halibut and steelhead were fantastic. The chocolate chip cookie and chocolate cake finished off the evening perfectly.

Do yourself a favor and listen to the host when he tries to get you to back out and go upstairs to the restaurant. The buffet was ATROCIOUS. Our server looked and acted like she wanted to end it all when I asked for sugar for the $5 drip coffee that tasted like dishwater. Yeah that’s what topped the horrible experience off, for $32/person it doesn’t include drinks. The menu also wasn’t even remotely similar to what was advertised online, so my wife with dietary restrictions was left with no protein considering she can’t eat red meat and the chicken that was on the online menu wasn’t present. There were also multiple offerings that didn’t have all the ingredients disclosed- ie a “chocolate chip cookie” that turned out to have blueberries in it. Not a huge deal for us but could be for someone who has allergies.

We had the lunch buffet here famished after a long drive and it was really quite good. It just provides the perfect meal for the Zig Zag Canyon hikers which I intend to do soon and dine here again!
