Just passed by, didn't stop.

I wasn't entirely comfortable leaving that low rating before, and I'm happy to report that the business owner (or manager) reached out to me, to explain the miscommunication. Technology, yay? I was also happy to hear that the restaurant is still feeding area Yinzers -- and others, like me. I'd been told of the lovely eats to come out of this kitchen. So, do come ... just give a call, just in case. 'Cause life can be chaotic.

Ok, look. This review is subject to my own review, depending on what happens next. But so far ... I'm not impressed, to put it mildly and broadly. But I naively trusted Yelp and Google, and I assumed the place was open, because they seemed confident it was. (I did try to call ahead, to order for pickup, but no one answered: I managed to interpret this as, hey, they're busy tonight; cool. Yeah ... I'm a dork.) AND I'd gone ahead and bought the voucher "deal" the restaurant had offer, on Yelp. So I was a bit cranky when I arrived in (what I've since learned is) West Alliquippa -- an odd ghost-town-feeling, mostly-post-industrial place -- and found Rossi's shut up tight. I was also _starving_, even before I got there, so "little things" seemed magnified. I was fortunate to find a lovely old-school bar and restaurant not far down the road. But I'm still going to need this resolved. I've thrown money into what seems like the abyss, and I would like it back, if I can't get the lovely pasta the internet described, after all. (Heck, I don't even know if Rossi's is still a going concern. The folks at the l'il bar down the road weren't at all sure. It's apparently been bit of a transition, from the old management -- to keep it politely vague.) I'll let y'all know how it goes. :-

Absolutely amazing. As some of the other folks said, this place is like eating in someone's home, not a restaurant. You enter directly into the kitchen/common area, and it can be disconcerting. Unlike any other restaurant I've ever been. The hostess/waitress/cook/busser/owner greets you with assurance to come on in. The place is fairly small, but with a beautiful mural on one wall, and windows on the other, where you can watch Mary's dogs and chickens play in the backyard. The food is the reason for five stars. Everything is made to order, and she is known to whip up off-menu favorites. The meatballs are honestly the best I have had. Not dense, but yet somehow sausage - y and delicious. The marinara is awesome. No runny sauce here. It is deliciously mild and rich with tomato flavor without being greasy. It actually sticks to the pasta instead of draining to the bottom of the plate. The father uses HIS father's recipe to make the proccuito, which is aged two years in house. You will likely meet him, as he will occasionally wander into the dining room to talk food, sports, or Italy. No other place like it on earth.

Definitely get the prosciutto as it is outstanding! This place is a hidden gem that will surprise you every time. Be sure to call for reservations as the food is prepared fresh. Whether you want pasta or veal, this place is perfect. It's BYOB so bring a great bottle of wine.

Hidden Gem! So relaxed - so family I felt like I was at home. The food is actually homemade and exactly as it should be. The ladies who work there are lovely! They make the food and serve it themselves ! Call ahead and come hungry. It's not like going out to eat it's like going home!

Found this place on yelp and was surprised i had never been there considering the high reviews. I called Mary and made a reservation. She was very accommodating. My first impression was uncertainty since the door does open into the kitchen, but Mary greeted us quickly and led us back to the diningroom. She is a one man operation and completely took care of my party with no problem. We started our feast with prosciutto and cheese which is house made. It was excellent. We also ordered stuffed peppers, sausage and pepper pasta, and veal romano. I really enjoyed all the food. Its true classic Italian. Somehow i made room for dessert and tried the lemon pitzel cake. It was an extremely impressive dessert. I highly recommended it. One of the things that made this restaurant special is the homey atmosphere. We had my 18 month old with us and she was free to walk around and play. This was totally different from any dining experience ive had before. It is a very kid friendly. Overall this place is very unique. It is really like being at Mary's house for dinner. If your looking for a relaxing home cooked italian meal this is your spot. I know ill be back.

Unbelievably good. By far, the best Italian food I've ever had. There was a group of 7 of us on a Friday night (we made reservations earlier in the day). Mary was working by herself but she did awesome. Everything came out hot and delicious. Amazing prosciutto, the stuffed hot banana peppers were great as well. For dinner, i had the chicken parm. It was on point! Chicken was seasoned awesome and the pasta was cooked perfect. The whole group was more than happy with their dinners. My friend said the chicken marsala was the best he's had. Go check this place out, you will not be disappointed! Don't forget to call ahead first though.

We had an awesome time here! We were all alone until half way through our meal then another couple came in. I wish they had more business...this place should be booming. Chicken marsala was huge and so delish! Meatball casserole was just like grandma used to make. And the limoncello pizzelle cake....let me just say we were licking the plate. This is definitely a hidden and gem and more people need to support this place. As we were leaving Mary was hand mixing and rolling gnocchi for the next order! Can't wait to go back! Oh how could I forget we had the prosciutto plate and my other half ate the whole thing! Also we wanted to try the pasta fagioli so mary made some specially for us....excellent service and excellent time!

The most amazing experience at a restaurant ever. From the smells when we first entered to the limoncello pizzelle cake, this place needs more recognition. Chain, mass market dumps giving you frozen food heated in a microwave charge more for far less. Rose and Mary are two of the sweetest people ever, and put forth a lot of effort to accommodate their guests. Please visit a truly hidden gem. Definitely worth going back again and again and again...........

Just ate at Rossi and it was very good. We called ahead to let Mary know when we wanted to come. She was waiting for us, showed us around and served us real homemade pizza bread, a cheese and prosciutto plate, salad, and dinner. I had the lasagna rollups, they were really delicious, and there was a lot so I took some home. Very relaxing experience, they have a couple of chickens that they raise in the big yard outside. Also a nice raised garden and patio. I will be going back there to eat, no doubt, it's like a hidden gem.

Great Italian food with homestyle cooking in West Aliquippa. It is a pop & daughter shop with interesting dialog from colorful characters. You feel as if you are eating with family. The veal parmesan, pasta fagoli and home made spaghetti noodles were all winners. This restaurant is open by reservation only. You must call Mary and leave a message with the time you wish to reserve. The owners live in the 2nd floor of the house above the restaurant. Prices are reasonable in the $10 - $15 range. Be sure to get directions.

Found this place by accident. Was searching web for another spot and saw "Rossi Winery" on margin of web page. Not knowing or hearing about the place I decided to GOOGLE for more info. Other reviews sounded interesting, so I decided to give it a shot. Called on a Friday to make reservation for Saturday. Spoke to Mary, who apologized, saying the place was closed for a private party. Mary said we could come in on Sunday, so I made a reservation. After making the reservation, I realized that they were closed on Sundays. I called back, and Mary said that it was fine---c'mon in Sunday. See you then. Sunday evening came, and my wife and I figured that others had also hoped to dine on Sat. but switched to Sunday. We were wrong---we were the ONLY people seated that evening. It could not have been more enjoyable. Mary is the waitress AND the cook. Started with the prosciutto/cheese plate. Had stuffed peppers, chicken romano, potato gnocci---everything was fresh and homemade--and excellent! While we were enjoying our meal. Mary's dad (John) came in, introduced himself with a couple glasses of wine. He joined us at the table for an hour! We went thru another bottle of wine- enjoying John's interesting take on winemaking, olive oil, and prosciutto. Absolutely two of the most enjoyable hours we have ever had in a restaurant. So---Mary opened the place up to us even though we were the only customers---on her day off; Mary could not have been more gracious and down to earth; her food was homemade and delicious; and her Dad was interesting as hell. Can't say enough good things about the whole experience. DO yourself a favor---CHECK IT OUT.
