Sumo Sushi and Japanese Restaurant is a casual spot that specializes in both traditional Japanese cuisine and fusion-style sushi. Located in Village West on Tilghman Street, it's open Monday through Thursday from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM, Friday from 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM, Saturday from 12:00 PM to 11:00 PM, and Sunday from 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
I was looking for a place to grab dinner before going to the movies, and since I hadn't had sushi in a while, I decided to give Sumo a try.
Kicked things off with the crispy calamari, which was perfectly fried. It's a familiar favorite, served with a sweet chili sauce that complements it nicely.
Next up were the Kani salad and seafood miso soup. While the soup was loaded with seafood, both dishes were fairly average and a bit bland.
For the main event, sushi! I tried the Sumo Roll, with spicy crunchy salmon and avocado inside, topped with seared salmon, white tuna, crispy rice ball, and tobiko with the chef's special sauce. I also had the Cracked Lobster Roll, filled with spicy shrimp and lobster, sweet potato tempura, and topped with Kani salad and a Japanese cracker with garlic mango sauce. Both were fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented.
Overall, everything was enjoyable. I'd rank Sumo somewhere in the middle among the sushi spots I've tried.

My husband and I get sushi here often, and it's one of our favorite places. Definitely give this place a try if you haven't yet!
The sushi is very good. Their variety is really nice, with lots of other asian fusion dishes. I especially like their chicken lettuce wrap! The sauce is flavorful, a bit sweet and with just enough spice. The owner is very kind, and accommodated me by offering gluten free soy sauce!
Ordered food online through their website and walked in 20 minutes later. The hostess didn’t seem like they even had our order. She eventually found it and then we proceeded to wait 40 more minutes for a take out order. Several other people walked in waiting a long time for their order as well. We usually drive across Allentown to come here. But not again. We have found other good sushi spots closer that have better service.

Husband and I came in at 6:56, food was served not until 7:48. 3 tables were served food first eventhough we arrived first. We ordered 1 pecking duck appetizer, 1 american dream roll and chirashi. It wasn’t even a busy night.
We are definitely not coming back here.
It’s a shame, the food was really great.

Sushi here is very fresh & flavorful. I love the fire dragon roll! Staff is courteous and accommodating. The restaurant is cozy, elegant, and the outdoor seating gives me NY vibes in a good way!
Fool me once, shame on you. Food me twice, shame on me! My first and last experiences were exactly the same: meh service, okay food with a great ambience. This place lacks balance.

Fast service, although the staff wasn’t overly friendly, just kind of neutral. That said, the food was excellent! Sushi was super fresh with a great variety to choose from. We sat outside, which was nice even in the strip mall setting. Love that it’s BYOB. We will definitely return!

My family and I tried Sumo Sushi for the first time. We love sushi and Thai dishes. I got the sashimi platter. It was pretty mediocre (and I love sashimi). The fish didn't seem that fresh. In fact, the pieces of salmon seemed almost a bit dried out on the edges like it had been sitting around for a while. It also arrived with a massive bouquet of artificial flowers in it. Weird. My husband and sister ordered the pad thai which they said was pretty good, not great. The service was really weird. The woman who waited on us seemed very angry, never smiled. Angrily seated us, tossed menus at us and walked away. The whole experience was weird. This was a once and done experience for us, sadly, as we were excited that there was a new sushi place in town. Oh well.

Excellent quality and good prices,it is in a strip mall, but that would never stop me. Glad that we took a local recommendation. Would definitely go back.

The food was incredible. We got the Peking duck rolls as an appetizer which was great. And we had the Blue mountain roll and Holiday rolls as our entree. They both tasted amazing. The service was very good, everyone was super friendly. Very relaxed and modern ambiance.
