I've been to other BBQ restaurants which were not great places to eat. Old Carolina is the best. Meat is moist and juicy, hush puppies were really tasty

They must met South Carolina barbecue cars sure is not North Carolina BBQ. Is cook with gas same as cooking in the oven. It has no taste till you put the barbecue sauce on it and it's a little dry.

We traveled a long way to visit an authentic BBQ joint. The food was AMAZING however the service was absolutely horrible!!! My son waited over 30 min for a burger!!! Everyone in our party were almost done with our meals--- when wait was brought to staff attention they acted like they really care--- again food is amazing but staff thumbs down all the way!!!!

Brisket corn bread beans and mac and cheese are on point. Ribs not so much. It's a self service type place and even with that it kinda seemed we were intruding by eating in. I liked the service si k to wash your hands without using the bathroom. It's ribs w sauce sink is way better than wet naps!

FOOD: tender moist brisket, slightly tough and not-so-tender pork ribs, as they maybe came off the ‘cue a bit before their time. The sauces here were really delicious! The vinegar slaw was a bit lacking in seasoning. The mac & cheese could have been a bit spicier, and baked a bit more, which, yes, I know is more of a personal preference. The cornbread was very good. The butter was whipped and sweet with a very legit cinnamon note to it. I would consider coming back here if I travel through this area again, and I would sample the pulled pork next time.
SERVICE: prompt and courteous and friendly and explanatory. Excellent, really, and worthy of 5 stars.
ATMOSPHERE: basic, rudimentary and functional, with quality fixtures, but had a slight corporate franchise system feel to it. The hand-washing station and self-service of silverware and sauces are a very useful touch.
This place deserves a solid four (4) stars for the moment, and I would consider a reevaluation at a future visit. It might be one of the only barbecue joints in Altoona, or even this part of Pennsylvania.
Wheelchair accessibility: Easy roll-in a wheelchair from the parking lot. This place is at parking lot level with a curb cut directly in front of the restaurant entrance.
The food was absolutely delicious the cornbread had my bussy gushing. I was creaming over how delicious the brisket, ribs and pulled pork are. I had to change my pants after this one from how stiff they are from creaming.
Me and my sister were on a road trip back from Tennessee found this little place on the map decided to stop and try it the food is excellent.

First time at old Carolina BBQ. I'm a fan ! Had brisket and pulled pork, both were excellent. I frequent BBQ in my travels and this was among the best. Bake beans are very unique from others, and delicious. Corn bread muffins are excellent too.
