“We decided to celebrate a special anniversary at Finellis and couldn't have been happier with our evening! We made a reservation and had a cozy table on this cold January evening. We were greeted promptly and while we were looking over the menu, we were given a pre-appetizer of a pasta & sausage salad in a delicious dressing. We did order an appetizer of "Drunken Mushrooms" to start and could believe how good they were and a very large portion too. We weren't rushed to order and when ready, gave our server, Christi, our order. The salads were very generous and fresh and we enjoyed two of the house-made dressings. I had an Italian vinaigrette which we loved so much, we purchased some to take home. We did ask for some bread or rolls and a basket was brought out. Out of the two, the bread was the best! Then came the meals. . .my wife had Eggplant Parmisan over angel hair pasta which she loved! I had a huge grilled pork porterhouse steak, cooked to perfection and accompanied by red roasted parsley potatoes and green beans in Jack Daniels sauce. The only thing we really didn't like was the green beans. . .was hoping for fresh cut ones and we couldn't taste the Jack Daniels sauce. That was so minor and we had so much food by then, it really didn't matter in the context of writing this review. The entree portions were large but yet totally scrumptious and seasoned / cooked to perfection. For dessert, they brought over a tray of about 8 or so desserts to pick from. . .all homemade by Mrs. Finelli herself! Oh my. . . who could resist? We decided to take a piece of Italian Almond Cake with butter cream icing. . .it was more than enough for us to share and especially after a big meal. The dessert was heavenly to say the least and we ate every bite! Last but not least, a big shout out to our server, Christi. . . .she made our dinner so enjoyable. . .friendly and checking in on us to see if we needed anything, refilling drinks and helping us order the perfect meal selections for us! A big thanks to her and Finellis. . .we will definitely be back soon!”

“Overall, a great Altoona bar for mixed drinks, shots and bar food - clean bar top and attentive bartenders. If you don’t smoke this is not the bar for you. There’s a bar, the next door over that’s owned by the same owners that’s a great non-smoking option (Zach’s). Regardless of which, if a PA team is playing they’re showing it on several television angles within the bar. There’s an ATM, cash only cigarette machine, and several lottery machines at your disposal.”

I’m so happy that Altoona finally has such a great Thai place for us to go to. We will be back! Oh we had the green curry and pad thai with crispy chicken as well as the Tom kha and Tom yum. The Thai tea is sooooo rich and delicious too. I could go and on and on. I’m usually very picky with my Thai food.”

“Stopped in for lunch while visiting from out of town. From the outside, Knickerbocker has that neighborhood corner bar feel that seems to beckon you in for a cool one. Once inside the bar, though, the atmosphere is very 1920s probation era swank, bold burgundy painted walls, black and white photos of public figures, a very well stocked bar and a menu full of curiosities. I love places like this. The bartender was quite friendly and attentive, making small talk with the local lunch crowd. I kept things simple and grabbed a super smash burger and Lager. The burger was juicy and delicious, think if someone hand crafted a Big Mac but with only the finest ingredients. The chips which appeared to be house made were great
as well. Unfortunately, I didn't get to experience sitting in the courtyard, not quite the time of year for that anymore. To sum it up, Knickerbocker Tavern is an awesome joint, if I lived in Altoona this would definitely be one of my regular spots. I'll be sure to tell anyone heading that way to stop in”

“My family and I have been going to Texas Roadhouse for many years now. In all of those years, there have only been two occurrences that come to mind where there was really any issue with anything. On both occurrences about two years apart, my steak was not cooked correctly. The first visit I am referencing took four times to correct, but was corrected without attitude from the waitress nor the manager and we were not charged for the steak in the end. The second visit I am referencing took three times to correct without attitude from the waitress, but attitude from the cook and a bit of skepticism from one manager, but the steak was corrected. Overall, the wait staff is kind and fairly prompt, same as management typically. The food is practically always good and with filling portion sizes. Sometimes when it is busy, floor cleanliness leaves a bit to be desired, but the tables and seats are typically clean. Also, most of the staff is knowledgeable enough of basic food allergies to comply with requests and/or will ask people who know better and are willing to check ingredients upon request. I have dairy and gluten intolerances and have not had an issue to date.”

“I have to admit, I wasn't sure what to expect. I'd never been to Altoona, and had no information about it except a friend and I had an invitation. Our focal point of the night was this magical place, McGarvey's Bar and Grill.

(Full disclosure: myself and a friend are in a band, and we were there to play with local nasty as f#@& legends Seas We Fear to Sail, exceptional street/skate punk purveyors Exs for Eyes, and the the official reunion show of the mighty Becoming Friends with Lions.)

To sum it up: Holy. Hell. The locals came out early, stayed and rocked with all the bands, and no one got out of line at all (at least, if they did, it was in the fun way). Everyone was super friendly.

My coconspirator reports the burger was damn tasty and "exactly what was needed" after way too much coffee during a two hour drive from Pittsburgh. Don't ask. I mostly ate candy. My bad.

The only negative thing I have to report is my own fault: I didn't ask for the number of the angel taking money/checking IDs. Even though she took one look at me and said "You're good." Ugh, crushed ?. By the time I worked up the nerve, she had vanished. But, um, hi ?.

Tl;Dr, go here and get down with the locals. Hope there's a show. If so, pay the cover and join the party.

“We always gave a lot of fun at the Bavarian. The bowling is inexpensive and the lanes are well maintained. The food is pretty good and has a decent variety. The staff is friendly. Prices are good. They bring in good entertainment. The ballroom is great for events. Our favorite is Country Store. Even though you have to have a membership, it isn't expensive. They also offer Bingo, bowling leagues, and dart competitions.

Parking: Parking is normally easy, unless there is an event in the ballroom. It can be difficult to find parking on those nights.

Kid-friendliness: Food options for kids. The bowling alley is also kid friendly.”

We called in an order for a large pepperoni pizza (with onions and mushrooms), an order of mozzarella sticks, an order of onion rings, and the combo steak hoagie (large with no green/bell peppers, add, mayo and lettuce). We were very pleased with our order and the helpful staff. My mother walks with a cane and when she went in to get the order, they walked it out for her. Thank you staff! The food was delicious. The steak hoagie is the best I've had since moving to the area 12 years ago. I've tried a lot of steak hoagies at other places and they were not nearly as good. The meat-to-bun ratio was perfect and it was very filling. The bun wasn't soggy with grease and had great flavor and a nice chew. The onion rings were great. They were not soggy and had great beer batter crunch, the same for the mozzarella sticks. We got a large pizza and it was HUGE. The crust had such good flavor. My only complaint would be that they did not put enough pepperoni on it to sufficiently cover the real estate. They could be a bit more generous with the toppings. Pricing at Dino's is on par with other places in the area. I found I spent the same amount there as I did placing an order to Dominos, the difference being I got a lot more food from Dino's. For what I paid to get a large pepperoni pizza (bigger than anything Dominos serves and better tasting), mozzarella sticks, onion rings, and a really good large steak hoagie, I paid Dominos for a large pepperoni pizza, 2 salads and a brownie. The steak and cheese at Dominos can't even compare to Dino's. I'll be going back to Dino's in the future.”

“The food is always good and fresh and they actually know how to make decent Chinese food, probably the best in town. Having eaten and tried all of the options here and being from the east coast where Chinese food is very good. They are quick and friendly and I have yet to get the wrong order. “Always have a great meal when we stop. Today was no exception. The only issues I had was spending $43 and not getting credit in my rewards account even though I scanned it, and then after opening my sandwich it was steak instead of chicken. “The food here is great if it's made by certain staff. As for second shift crew they can be friendly or not so friendly it's in between depends on who's working the window that day. Yesterday, I had a guy with an attitude and terrible customer service and I was friendly with him used all my manners. So it just all depends the atmosphere is kid friendly and they serve the Krabby Patty meal which in my opinion was very good. The fries were fresh and everything was given to me in a timely manner.

Parking: The Plank road and the one over near Altoona Hospital both have good parking it is easily accessible.

Kid-friendliness: They offer kids meals while also having a wide selection of foods. The staff can be good with the kids or just completely ignore them it's an in between thing.

Wheelchair accessibility: Yes it has wheelchair accessibility.”

“Can not say anything bad about the pizza especially. But sometimes they answer the phone sometimes it takes 3 tries. No there not busy at that time cause I've walked in and the staff was either arguing or sitting around 3 top on 1 side and someone on the machine.”

“We order lunch at this location quite often and we're 90% satisfied for the last 3 years. Some days are a little off. I'm a big fan of the market fresh honey mustard chicken wrap, and the jalapeño poppers are the bomb. I do wish there was an option to have burgers cooked well done though. The classic roast beef has a lot less beef than it used to. It's a typical eat-in experience, so we usually order through mobile for pickup and that works fine.”
