Great food and great service, with a great selection of beer

This is a popular restaurant with ambiance and good burgers, salads, and entrees. The crab cakes are scoops, rather than cakes, lukewarm and mushy in the centers. I will pass on those in the future. Brought mine home to recook.

No matter how often I go to Jean Bonnet (few times a year), it never disappoints. Food and service are always great.

The restaurant has a picture on the wall depicting soldiers from the south killing union soldiers and enslaved people in chains. When we ask about the picture staff said this is a historic building. I answered yes in Pennsylvania which was a free state, and would never had a painting in this Inn. Staff had no answer. TAKE DOWN THE PUCTURE!!!!

We were in Bedford for another purpose and stumbled upon this restaurant near our destination. A short wait resulted in an excellent meal in a pre-revolutionary setting.

As usual our service was superb, our food was like no other and the atmosphere was great! If you & your significant other have not been there you’re in for an unforgettable time!

I would absolutely recommend coming to Jean Bonnet to eat. I have eaten their several times and food is always beyond wonderful. Usually I enjoy sitting at bars and enjoying a cold refreshment and meal at restaurants, however, this is one I would rather sit at a table due to one of the bartenders, Eden. She has the inability to make small talk, answer questions clearly, or engage in light conversation definitely has hindered by customer satisfaction. She should NOT be a bartender. She has absolutely zero personality and not personable whatsoever. Comes off rather snooty. She should chose another job. All the other servers have been wonderful.

Very old and historic. A bar/ resteraunt upstairs and a resteraunt downstairs too. It also has rooms for rent upstairs. A must see if you're a history buff at all.

Nice people but not tasty food.

Historical location and friend that blends with theme of Old Bedford village but the prices are not friendly. Sadly the prices were too high for the quality of the food that was average at best. I cringe as I say that because I really wanted to enjoy the steak. The gardent salad with balsamic dressing was good and the highlight of my meal. Sadly even the diet coke seemed flat.
I will try to give this place another chance when they are not as busy. We came on the closing day of the Bedford fair, they did have a crowd. If it improves I will gladly update my review. The gift shoppe is adorable.

I’ve been to the Gene Bonnet Tavern several times. I cannot speak for the rooms. It looks like it might be a nice bed-and-breakfast, but I’ve only had meals here. Once in the dining room which has excellent atmosphere and the other times at the bar in the tavern upstairs. Generally, it’s the atmosphere that brings me back. But I won’t go out of my way to eat here necessarily. Tonight‘s experience is an example of that.

First off, the bartender was not overly friendly. She wasn’t bad, she was just so busy that she didn’t have much attention given to the patrons at the bar. She did bring the food and drinks out in a timely manner. And that says something. But the small attention to detail at most good bartenders have or lacking. You have to try several times to get her attention and she did not ask me for a refill on my beer or how my food was.

The beer that I chose tonight was called Walleye IPA. I gave it a 3.0 on untapped. It’s an OK West Coast style IPA, but could tell by the head that it really wasn’t brewed to style. Just had a bit of an off taste. The tavern can’t help that, but they could try the beers before they put them out on tap and on the menu.

What really disappointing me was the burger. I got the burger special for eight dollars. Burger and fries. The fries were really, pretty tasty. Nothing to really write home about but they were good. I requested a medium burger. And while the burger was tasty, it was more on the medium rare side. I tried to tell the bartender that I want a medium burger, but done slightly more, so she said, medium well? I didn’t have time to explain. I was looking for them to make sure that it actually was a medium burger. What I got was still pretty pink. I ate a little more than half of it and let it go with that. She did ask me if I wanted something to take it home and, to go, but I declined. Again, she did not ask me how it was.

I’m giving the tavern three out of five stars. It’s decent, and always busy. If you get an entrée, you probably can’t go wrong. If you sit at the bar and order local craft beers and the burger special, watch yourself.

The gift shop and the goats are a nice touch to the property. The outside seating also looks like it’s very nice.
