Incredible happy hour and still incredible food service and atmosphere during other hours!
Noise level incredibly loud. Too many young loud students. Ask for a new table because we couldn’t hear ourselves talk. We waited 1/2 for a waiter .Had to ask for a steak knife to cut LBl chicken. Bland! 👎🏻
Owner and staff are super nice. Great place
I’m a tough grader, and one of our three dishes was fine but a little boring (a romaine salad with mozzarella), but my husband was quite happy with his risotto with shrimp and peas, and I was delighted with my octopus salad! Big pieces of octopus (lots of protein) more sweet, juicy and flavorful than I’ve ever had — and I have many decades of octopus eating behind me — a nd not the least bit tough. The dish was beautifully presented, and the combination of balanced and subtle flavors —including an arugula pesto — fulfilled the promise. Our server was perfect — likable, helpful, available but unobtrusive — and the atmosphere is attractive in a warm and low-key way, with decent acoustics. We’ll be back. 😊
Wednesday evening dinner, not very crowded, food was delicious, the beverages were good, service a little off.
Really enjoy this restaurant. Nice vibe and good service. Started with the whipped feta app, which was good. Really liked the penne vodka and the milanese. Very nice drinks as well. Definitely worth checking this place out.
Good food. Excellent service. Loud persistent noise (aka music). Rather expensive for the setting.

Last time we went I forgot to write a review but we loved it. We got take out tonight, the chicken parm and Judie foodie pasta both were amazing.

I wanted to have an enjoyable anniversary dinner but ended up violently ill with food poisoning. I hope the owner takes a close look at the kitchen for food safety and the safety to their patrons. In response to the owner...my review is an account of what happened, the restaurant must look at food safety ...my hamburger was pretty raw and caused a night of violent vomiting and diarrhea. I hope something is done to prevent it from happening to anyone else. I'm not out to damage the restaurant but to ensure food safety to others.
My friend and I dropped by Bar Avalon for happy hour cocktails, and it was the perfect escape from the usual Main Line fussiness. The service, food, drinks, and atmosphere consistently offer a reliably pleasant experience.

Our first experience here, popping in on a rainy Saturday evening. Despite the warm, welcoming interior, the first thing we noticed was how loud the restaurant was. Full capacity with a crowded bar does not need loud music playing! It was exceedingly difficult having a conversation with my partner, we actually gave up and people watched.Food was great! We enjoyed our bacon wrapped figs and goat cheese appetizers. The Tips & Shrimp and short rib pasta entrees were great as were the house-made beignets. The awesome hostess was as doing quadruple duty as Villanova students are one Spring break. She didn’t miss a beat taking our drink and food orders, filling our water and making sure we were enjoying our meal.

(Edit: for reference this is from our experience in 2023 so hopefully they’ve made staffing changes since our visit) My husband and I chose to eat here, and the service was egregious. They gave us a weird vibe when we walked in and even though we are residents of the main line I think there was some classism going on. Everyone who was already eating in the restaurant, looks like they walked out of a Brooks Brothers catalog. We waited so long in between getting drinks or our food, they brought out our silverware and brought my husband a knife for his steak but then when the steak came out like 30 minutes later, it was already cut into pieces. also, we had a view of the kitchen from where we were eating and saw that they had grabbed our food out of a hotbox. I don’t understand why they just didn’t bring it to us when it was ready. We regularly eat at multiple restaurants throughout the mainline area and King of Prussia and we have never felt so uncomfortable from the customer service we received. By the way, we still tipped well, because how we were treated, gave us the appearance that they didn’t think that we would. I do not recommend, unless you look like old money.
