Julius is a gem in Erie. Do not miss a chance for a meal here. The cuisine is central and southern Mexican. Oaxacan mole sauce, but with a different twist. We each had versions. Sherry's was dark and served over a beautifully baked salmon. It was more of what we expected from a mole and really good. I had a daily special which was pork tenderloin with a green mole sauce. Cilantro and seasonal peppers gave it a different look. We had shrimp appetizers, served in a garlic butter/oil, but the oil was not overwhelming, allowing the shrimp to come through with the seasonings. We tried both house margaritas, sharing of course, and enjoyed them. They differed only in the tequila, and one was slightly more sour. Loved the food and the evening.

Parking: Lots of spaces off street.

Wheelchair accessibility: It was level with the parking lot.

Just from scanning Julio's responses to critical reviews, speaking as a hospitality professional, I would never patronize his establishment; he's super-defensive to mild criticisms. Heaven help him if ever he tries to open for business at this location more than the few hours per week he is now, because I get the impression he would crack under the pressure.

First time there and enjoyed the experience. Good service, an interesting menu, and a fantastic old venue. I'd definitely go again.

There was plastic in my food could have choked and died. They did not reduce the bill, nor did the cook apologize. Very expensive and my boyfriend beef was cold & hard

Julius was very rude. We went for a drink and music and he didn't want us sitting with our friends because we were not eating. Drink was 10 dollars, no ice. Music was good but will never go

Thought to give this place a try mainly due to the jazz quartet that was playing there…Very nice historic building, which is being well-maintainedNot much of a menu , portions are very small.Once the server provided the order, she never check to see how the meal was, or if needed another drink …I would go there again and just have drinks and listen to the music, but definitely not to order a dinner

I rented the Ballroom for a galaaffair. Julio could not have been more helpful. He was so easy & professional, the food was attractively set up & was delicious! I HIGHLY RECOMMED JULIUS at Maennerchor Plaza as a fabulous venue for any Event! We went for dinner on several occasions, and always left satisfied. Julio offers Jazz in the Pub on Fri & Sat nights with $10 small plates! This is a relaxing way to spend an evening!

We had an Event in the Ballroom on Friday. Julio could not have been more helpful, very easy to work with. He had wonderful suggestions, too. The atmosphere was fabulous, we hired Ed Koscelek for uplights to create an even more beautiful ambience for our 200 attendees. The food was delicious and the service excellent! HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! Thank you, Julio and Staff! We appreciate ALL that you did to make our evening the best!

We had brunch today (prix fixe menu) and it was the best we've had in Erie. Spectacular food in taste and quality. The service was friendly, attentive, and yet not overbearing. Just right. The atmosphere is unique - with much of the grand old Mannerchor still in evidence. Yet it didn't feel at all musty or faded. It's a piece of preserved history in all its glory and shame. (The bar still has the German phrase "Ladies are not served at the counter." But a welcome sign has replaced the word not.) If you're looking for a first class brunch in Erie in Mexico City style, look no further. Julius is a gem in the Gem City!

If you find yourself in Erie and looking for someplace special to eat, think of Julius—it is certainly one of the best, if not THE best, Mexican food north of the border. The food is fresh, well spiced, prepared with great care. Every dish was exceptional! Don’t miss it!

Julio is an amazing owner. He spends time to get to know each patron and then remembers you on your next visit. His food is delicious and authentic and a lot of care and time goes into what is made. You will not find a taco here, but if that is what you want go to a more Americanized casual fast food restaurant.
