Nice historical setting but food menu should be redone

Farnsworth has a great ghosty vibe with rich history. However this last stay makes me want to make an honest review. We have stayed there in the past with no issues. We left a day early this time around. Stayed in the Sarah Black room and it smelled like sewer. Tried to fill the traps with water which didn't help. The sewer smell filled the room. Running the exhaust fan and opening the window and closing the bathroom door helped a little. There was also a 10 second burst of hot water, after that no hot or even luke warm water for a shower. With the smell and no hot water and a tough night on a bad mattress we had to abandon ship early which is disheartening due to the cost of this room. Hot/warm water and not smelling like a septic tank are a must. 10/10 would not go back

Overall the Farnsworth House Inn wad a great time. Food and service was excellent.! The location is amazing, room was spotless. Stayed in the Sara Black room, but didn't have any paranormal experiences. Room is located in the front so lots of street noise but that tapers off after 9 to 10pm.

Great location to grab lunch. The garden and patio are dog friendly. Our pup even enjoyed food from their doggy menu!

To us, not worth it. I am sure others would disagree. Check in ok not overly welcoming. Failed to mention whare breakfast was, did get a time slot though. . Had to ask Anne at sweenys. Very good employee. Tv damned if we could figure out, same with Internet. A couple waters on desk may have been nice as well. Glad we tried would likely not go back. .

We did the evening basement tour. Very nice 👌

Slice of the Paranormal

Ok, this place is a must see. You can rent a room, eat a meal, drink some boos, and shop in the gift shop. You can also do a ghost hunt in the Farnsworth House. Which includes the attic the sniper that killed Jennie Wade was in. The basement is another place where confederates were buried and is said to be haunted by the General. Behind a door with a white cross painted by Lorraine Warren.

I've eaten in this historic tavern numerous times and I'm never disappointed. This landmark is a short walk from the Jennie Wade House and the 1863 Hotel. The food is very good, nice atmosphere and good service.

Food here is excellent, service is terrific. One of the best places to eat in Gettysburg

The Blood, Guts and Glory tour is a must see! Angel, the guide is very knowledgeable. You will learn so much about the unseen side of the war. You will come out never wanting to forget what these men and women went through.

Second stay at Farnsworth. First time we stayed in the Jennie Wade room (beautiful, but uneventful.) This time we stayed in the Lincoln room (a little fancier with a hot tub.) We took a walking tour and basement tour - it was great. Took some pictures coming out of the basement (will attach.) We like to visit these “haunted” places, but never really experience anything. This time we did. I woke up to the sound of someone running through or above the room. I refused to open my eyes in fear of seeing something; then I heard it again. It sounded like a kid playing. I fell asleep and when I woke up I asked my husband (no-nonsense guy) if he heard anything and he articulated exactly what I had heard. Very creepy. We went outside to look before leaving and there is no room above the Lincoln room. I added the experience to the notebook. Not questioning what others say anymore - something is there!

Overcrowded & Misleading

Booked “Mini Paranormal Night” directly through the Farnsworth Inn after being told it’d be perfect for our group—two hours, max 15 guests, exploring multiple rooms and outdoors after dark.

Instead, we got 30 people crammed into a hot attic for an hour-long lecture, then another hour in the cellar for more talking. No real investigation, no dining rooms, no outdoor portion, and nothing beyond the attic, cellar, and stairs.

Spent over $600 for what was basically an overcrowded classroom session. Could’ve had a better ghost hunt for half the price with any walking tour—or just wandering Gettysburg ourselves. Hugely disappointing.

Always our favorite place to stay when we come . We’ve stayed here for 10 plus years.

Me and my husband stayed here July 27th 2025, we booked the Custer Room. We didnt know that this room is in the courtyard and not in the main house, there was no way of telling this from their website, and were told we couldn't even go in the main house to see it unless we paid for a tour, which was a bummer. Our room smelled pretty strong of mold, which was a issue for me with asthma and a health concern for anyone staying here. I am not a very big person and neither is my husband but the shower is very small, if you are larger person you are not going to be able to fit in that shower, the shower head sprays out on to the floor also. But our biggest problem with this room was the next morning my husband woke up with bug bites all over him, so we are worried this room may have bed bugs! The breakfast was very good and the lady who made our breakfast was very nice to talk to. Unfortunately I dont think this place is worth the money, but we had fun exploring gettysburg regardless, and all the historical properties are very beautiful.
