I have visited this place numerous times over the years. But the food just keeps getting worse. I don’t understand. The chicken tenders have always been golden and delicious. They came out like dark bark on a tree. And this was after the second round. The waitress told me it was because of the oil they are using. When I went to pay that waitress told me the crew fights with management about not being able to serve them to their customers. We waited at least 5 minutes...read full review
I have been going to the Famous for decades. Always ordered the Hot Dog w/ everything. I recently stopped in abd git my usual 2 dogs with everything and a Strawberry shake. I hatecto say this but the Hot Dogs were horrible. They were dry with a weird texture. I've spoken to several other frequent loyal customers and they said the same thing. I'm not sure if you changed your distributor, but I don't think I can go back. maybe for a cheeseburger with everything. I hope you...read full review
We dined at this establishment on March 25, 2025, and unfortunately, it was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had.
From the moment we arrived, the service was incredibly disappointing. There were five waitresses sitting at the counter, seemingly more interested in their phones than attending to customers.
After our order was taken, our food was delivered incorrectly. The rolls were stale, the gravy had an unappetizing consistency resembling brown wallpaper...read full review

Famous Hot Weiner in Downtown Hanover is a family-friendly diner with a relaxing atmosphere and helpful staff. Known for its delicious milkshakes and famous hot wieners, the restaurant offers tasty meals with generous portions. The fries are praised for their soft and crisp texture, while the chicken could be more evenly cooked. Although the hot wiener was not as hot as expected, it delivered a delightful Americana taste. The banana shake was a highlight, described as Runts flavored soft serve goodness. Many long-time customers have enjoyed their visits for decades, appreciating the classic diner feel and friendly service. The menu remains the same, offering a nostalgic experience for those who grew up visiting the place. The staff is friendly and welcoming, providing quick service and leaving guests to enjoy their meal comfortably. Recent reviews mention that while the food is generally fresh and well-prepared, some customers found the hot dogs to be dry and with a weird texture, suggesting a possible change in supplier. Several reviews highlight the unique style of hot dogs, sliced in half, grilled with a good “char” and a satisfying snap, reminiscent of Polish sausage. The hot dogs are very meaty and not bland, with finely diced onions and homemade relish that is highly praised. The atmosphere is very much like a classic diner, with a nostalgic feel that transports guests to a different era, whether it’s 1956 or 1978. The building is historic, with plenty of family photos on the walls, and the service is excellent and friendly. The restaurant is clean, though some suggest the bathrooms could be improved. Street parking is easily available within close walking distance. Overall, the place is a great stop for those seeking a unique, fun, and nostalgic dining experience in downtown Hanover.
