I placed a pickup order at Hong Kong Ruby because they don’t offer delivery. They told me it would be ready in 45 minutes. Mind you, just for appetizers. But I agreed and showed up, only to find out they had canceled my order because they “thought I wasn’t coming.”
I’m not sure how they do it here in Harrisburg, but I’m from New York and if too much time passes, the restaurant usually gives a follow-up call. I understand they might’ve been busy, but there were at least four people up front—someone could’ve checked in or made a quick call.
This review is strictly based on service, not the food. Just disappointing communication.

My wife got take out and it will be the one and only time. This is the worst Chinese food I’ve ever had. I literally threw it away after the 2nd bite. Even the egg rolls, I choked one down and threw away the second one. Find another place to eat this one is horrible

Tried something new and it was NOT it very bland and just was hoping for a wow factor and there really wasn't I don't know what I was expecting but i was hoping better

We rarely order here. I've never liked this place. This is very last resort for us and we have probably ordered from here maybe 3 times in 8 years. My husband ordered wonton soup 2 weeks ago for my son and it tasted so bland.
I'm also not a fan of their entrees. Only the fried rice tastes good. I typically don't like American style Chinese food. I don't give one star because at least they have better service than Freshido down the road. People are better off eating this Chinese food for cheaper rather than the overpriced Freshido Chinese entrees. I spent $100 over at Freshido & got horrible service. They have good sushi but their Chinese food is not good.

We are visiting, and I ordered steamed dumplings and sautéed broccoli from here for lunch yesterday. (The portions were very generous, so this turned out to be multiple meals’ worth.)
The dumplings were so juicy and incredibly flavorful. Just the perfect ratio of wrapper to filling. And the broccoli made a delicious accompaniment.

Food was awful. Places a to go order for 3 of us. None of us liked our orders. Food was very bland and had an odd smell. Ended up throwing the food out after several bites. Will never go again. Even the mixed fried rice was not good; that is a basic chinese dish. Prob the worst Gen Tsos ever ate. When ordering out is soo expensive, it really sucks when your meal fails. So far the only good chinese place relatively close is Jasmine on the Carlisle Pike.
I admire Hong Kong, I got the Tso tofu and white rice to go with it. This is so yummy! Spicy but it'll help open up my sinuses since it's flue season.

I was order 96 on November 2nd, 2024; needless to say, I could have flushed that $15 down the toilet and it would have been more gratifying! The Only edible items in the meal were the egg roll and crab Rangoon. The sesame chicken lacked flavor, was overly chewy in consistency and overall nasty. The side of pork fried rice also lacked in flavor. I haven’t dined with Hong Kong Ruby in quite some time, and this was an effort to determine whether they have earned my business back. Needless to say, that isn’t what occurred! I Will NEVER dine with Hong Kong Ruby again with the exception of a desire to set my hard earned cash on fire or the urge to put my money directly in the trash as that is where v the MEAL I ordered ultimately ended up. I don’t make this type of Review lightly, but the growling of a Hungry stomach is dictating my words.

Overall good but chow mein comes with no celery,just onions. They charge extra for celery. Only place that doesnt put celery in chow mein.

ordered happy family & sweet n sour chicken. The happy family didn't come with rice. for $17 I expected it to come with it. the sweet n sour sauce was only half full with mostly vegetables. both descriptions never said if the happy family came with rice or not, & the sweet n sour chicken never said it would come with vegetables & im allergic to peppers. I called the store & he said the happy family should have came with rice. so he said he would redo our order & hung up quickly before I could say anything else! so over a hour passes by & I call to find out that they don’t deliver. we'll, we ordered through door dash for a reason!!!! horrible service!!! the lady that I talked to also hung up quickly. but first they keep you on hold for about 5-10 minutes before you can even talk to anyone!! first time ever eating there & definitely our last time!!!!
