I had a fantastic time playing the harp here!! The Green Gables is a true gem in southwestern Pennsylvania. From the stunning architecture to the delicious food and beverages, this place is great. (Speaking as a musician for a moment: Oh my goodness, what incredible acoustics!!)
I felt like I was in a fairytale dreamland. Definitely check this place out!!
I’ve decided to finally speak out about the Great Valentine’s Day Debacle of 2025. I took my girlfriend here having traveled half an hour to come. I thought it would be a perfect Valentine’s Day evening. Well, it fell short, very short of perfect. We arrived promptly for our 7:30 reservation to be immediately notified by another diner, that we would be waiting a long time for a table. And we did. Almost an hour. We were finally seated in the banquet hall which was quite cold. As soon as we sat down, the couple beside leaned over and told us they had been seated for over an hour and still had not received their food. Then the gentleman pointed to an older couple and said “See that table over there, they’ve been here since 6 o’clock”…I reeled as I realized that we were in it for the long haul. After a while, the waitress finally attended our table, she seemed scattered and obviously stressed. I kind of felt bad for her as she apologized that she was one of two waitresses and there was only one cook who was also doing dishes. We made sure to order everything at once because we were certain our next visit from her would be possibly the next day. There was an older gentleman pouring water and sweating bullets. He wore a tshirt and seemed out of place. He seemed surprised by the fact that nobody was getting their food…we finally called the waitress back and asked for bread and water like we were orphan children in 18th century London.
Around 9 o clock, the couple from 6 o’clock finally surrendered as they still had not received their food. People got up to hug them and congratulate their incredible endurance and their still cheerful attitude. I looked over at a younger couple and they looked like they wanted to burn the place down. Finally, I decided it was time for us to surrender as well as the couple beside us was giving up. I called the gentleman pouring water over and told him to cancel our orders…he apologized profusely as he told us that he didn’t even work there! He was their next door neighbor! I then wondered if we should also get up and start serving food to our comrades. But, we decided to leave around 9:15, starving. I realized that we had driven an hour round trip for prison food…I proceeded to call fox’s pizza and order a heart shape pizza for my wonderful girlfriend who took everything so well. I felt so bad and defeated but thankfully, in the car we cried tears…of laughter! We thought it was hilarious that the next door neighbor was serving, and we couldn’t help but sympathize for the incredible disaster at Green Gables. Thank you for the good laughs. We will not be coming back next year but I certainly hope it gets better.
Absolutely wonderful atmosphere, food, and service.
We decided to have dinner after our small intimate wedding. We arrived and were seated by hostess/owner Our waitress seemed disorganized and we were given water which seemed to have an odd odor. I ordered the chicken which was moist but very salty. The lentils were not fully cooked. My husband had the chopped crab salad which had a taste of dirt. My niece had the salmon which had a terrible smell and when we told the staff she comped us 1/2 off for a rank smelling salmon which she obviously didn’t eat. And as I asked the Waitress what kind of Salmon they had, she said she didn’t know. Hmmm…..So the owner came over and I asked her what kind of Salmon it was, her reply to me was, I DONT KNOW, I have to ask the cook, I mean as an Owner you better know the entire menu so you can answer the questions to your guests.
The bathroom was horrific stains smelly and mildew insane asylum feel. It was cold and we were sat by a very large fireplace. The owner would place one small log at a time and we were cold and uncomfortable. We only decided to go here as it was said to be “fine dining” which it clearly was not. It makes me sad that for our wedding dinner we all had extremely salty and unacceptable food. The only saving grace is we can laugh about our f”fine dining” wedding dinner for many years to come. I WOULD NOT recommend this place at all. Run away!!
My boyfriend and I came here for the first time for the Valentine’s Day dinner and it was a horrible experience. Multiple couples got up and left because their food was not cooked properly. The duck that was served was rancid. The staff tried their best but I’m am just so disappointed that management allowed this dinner to go on. We were told there was only 1 cook and he was also the one who had the wash the dishes. We were seated in the Tuscan room where everyone had to wear their coats because it was so cold. It was a very disappointing experience. A couple even started to bus the tables to help the waitress out.
Terrible, just awful experience. Reserved for dinner and music on Valentine's Day for my husband, a good friend and me. We arrived early for a 7:00 reservation. It was clear from the start that the kitchen and staff were in disarray. We waited for 1/2 hour before our server appeared and another 1/2 hour until she took our order. We listened to the music and watched couples complain to one another across tables, several couples left money and walked out. At 9:25, having not received our main courses, we informed the co-owner that we were leaving. She said dinner was on the way and it was brought to the table at 9:30. My dish was cold, our friend ordered duck which had a sharp 'off' smell. He didn't eat it. We quickly paid the check and left. Our waitress was so embarrassed, and said she had received so many complaints, she was almost in tears.
It appears the owners are attempting to create an atmosphere of fine dining, but cloth tablecloths and haughty ownership do not make for a fine dining experience. Kitchen management needs to be upgraded. The venue has charm but maintenance has been neglected. The restrooms are vile.
Green Gables has started a live music program and the musicians deserve support. If you go, go for the music, bring your own corkscrew (apparently the staff at this BYOB establishment share a single corkscrew) enjoy the fireplace, your own wine and the music. Avoid the food and the disinterested owners.
MSJR thanks Green Gables for giving us the opportunity to play there. Beyond that, the food was great! Upon walking in the door, you get the sense of an old timey family owned restaurant. Some of the best mashed potatoes I've ever had. Our servers were so sweet! Every plate that I saw looked delicious.
If you're looking for a cute spot to treat a date, the intimacy of this restaurant can't be beat!
One thing I will add is to dress warm in the winter.
I had dinner here for my 50th birthday last week. The food was exceptional and the service was impeccable. I definitely will be returning. The only thing I wasn't aware of is they only serve water. If you want to drink anything else, you have to bring your own. But it definitely isn't a deal breaker. Get the steak! You won't regret it!
Teresa and her team provided impeccable service for my daughter’s & her husband’s wedding. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was stunning and the attention to detail was impeccable. Teresa was so helpful and easy to work with throughout the entire process, her patience and communication made the day flow effortlessly. I received countless compliments from our guests, who were beyond impressed. Thank you ❤️
My friend had a wedding here. The food was delicious and the space was breathtaking. We made her feel like a queen. She was holding it together the day before and the day of her wedding until Cindy got into it. I'm not quite sure what Cindy is to this place but she was TELLING the bride how the area was going to be set up. Cindy repeatedly interrupted the bride and almost all the bridesmaids when we were trying to set up and get everything ready. I believe Cindy is the owner/co-owner, at least that's how she acted. It was only after the bride broke down crying, and a groomsmen had a word with Cindy, is when Cindy backed off. Beautiful, amazing venue...without Cindy.

Owner was rude and difficult to work with but the rest of the staff were very nice. Rude interjections were made during conversations that she had no business making herself be a part of. Wedding day was humid and a groomsman asked for water for the bride only to be told “Oh no, we don’t do that here.” We had to go back and forth before getting just a glass of water.
The owner also evidently had her own schedule for us but never bothered to tell anyone what that was. Groomsmen were scolded by the owner for starting to set up placement cards on the tables 3 hours before the wedding because it was apparently too early. Then, later, the owner would panic when we started to fall behind. There could have been better communication from the owner in regards for when things could be done. They even charged the bride for a wedding that was happening the next day.
Along the same lines, the owner is sisters with the owner of the Ligonier Tavern. We decided to book the rehearsal dinner for that location but they forgot about us. Took our $200 deposit and then just assumed we wouldn’t show up. Luckily, Sharky’s was able to accommodate all 25 people with no hesitation.
Don’t go to Green Gables or Ligonier Tavern if you want to be treated with respect. Both were highly unprofessional.

Green Gables and the staff were amazing on our special day. Theresa made the planning process a breeze and the staff did an amazing job helping to set up the decor. We had our ceremony and the reception there with an intimate group of 26 of our closest family and friends but returned the following night for a private dinner celebration in the dinning area while a much larger (250+ I think) party was underway. They can accommodate small and large groups. The food was amazing too!
