Ok, so I am not sure where to start with this review. Our pre fix menu was barely enough to snack on and both me and my business partner agreed that we didn't find anything exciting in what we ate. The service lacked the finesse that you would expect from similar establishments, probably because it caters to locals or tourists. The farm to table approach sounds like a good excuse to overcharge and underdeliver. It is a sad thing to pay close to $300 for two people and leave a restaurant dissatisfied, and that's a really not the feeling you want to have.

Lovely tasting menu here. Food was super fresh and local and staff was lovely! Looking forward to visiting them again in the future, would love to do one of their six-course tasting menus.

When spending over $340 (2 of us with tip) on dinner, I expected a culinary experience that would leave me wanting for more. It didn't. If the food was as good as the presentation, it would have been delicious. It wasn't. My wife is a much better cook. Highlight of the 2.5 hour experience was the service....Nice job Carrie & Pat. I was annoyed being charged a wine service fee when they never touched the bottle. One and done.

Unlike most restaurants, Verbena requires a deposit to hold your table, it is a highly priced, prefixed set menu. The food was good but did not excel in taste. Service was average. Will not return.

Fantastic experience! We had the 6 course tasting menu last night, and it was amazing! The menu was reflective of fall, and many of the flavors were integrated into each dish in the best way possible. There were many flavors I was not used to eating, and enjoyed every second. From the delightful salad with fresh veggies, a silky smooth squash soup, perfectly cooked Tuna with an amazing squash/beet sauce, great risotto with mushrooms, and tender short ribs. Each dish had the perfect amount of seasoning and unique flavor to enhance each dish. Do yourself a favor and go here!

We enjoyed a great tasking menu from the Chef, who has an amazing resume' and long culinary tradition. Please take the time to explore this restaurant and see what is being created daily. No doubt, the Chef will continue to aspire to ever greater skills and unique menu tastings.

Highly recommended. The venue is great, food is very tasty. Chef Scott (owner) will personally cook your meal so will ensure you get the best experience. Service is amazing,

Let’s start with the good: the ambiance is lovely and so was the dessert. Really, that is all I can comfortably say was praiseworthy. We went and had the fixed price menu (the only option, which is not advertised on the website which apparently the staff was oblivious to. The staff seemed surprised that there was actually website.). The menu very mushroom heavy, and limited, but I suppose if you are farm to table in Kennet square and don’t have many customers you may choose to focus on less waste. We were also drawn by the Craig Laban review (who we will be discussing our experience with). For the price, the food is just mediocre- ok, everyone has their off nights. What I take the most issue with is the absolute rudeness of the staff when we gave any feedback. We complained that our mushroom risotto a soup, and the chef (honestly, he is a cook with a chefs attitude) gave us a verbal and flippant “ok” when provided any feedback. We were offered coffee with an apology and subsequently charged for the coffee (!). Never a full glass of water, and don’t expect them to refill your wine glass. The food was extremely underwhelming, and when the cook was given this feedback, we said we wouldn’t come back for this kind of food. He said “then don’t” and walked away. We won’t - but I sure hope that nobody else goes back either! As a foot note, the location is not ADA friendly and neither are the staff. My father clearly needed help, and as a BYOB a courtesy is to refill wine glasses. I am sure that they won’t miss the one we accidentally stained as they had no other customers and could just use those table clothesUpdate: I can see that the owner responded, thank you for your response, clearly you would prefer another form of communication. I did not realize that the cook was also the owner. I hope that your réponses help bring other customers in, as we were the only ones that night. We did give you communication face to face and your reception, if existant, was rude. We do not usually expect anything for free - that is not the attitude that I wished to convey - but I suppose that any kind of feedback is not one that you are open to. When your staff comments to your customers that it is unfortunate that they didn’t like the dish and says “would you like a coffee” it’s not exactly presumptuous to assume it was an apology coffee.Sorry that my keyboard did an autocorrect and that my footnote is what you chose to focus on as opposed to repeat (or any) customers and the quality of your food. We didn’t ask for ADA accessibility, you are right, but we did ask for common courtesy and service. That note was purely information for those who need it - and they would because if they had a chair they couldn’t get through the threshold - or expect anyone working there to help with the door. I didn’t realize that an interior ramp helped anyone get inside the restaurant.

Well, I have read about Verbena in the Philly Inquirer and decided to visit with my partner and another couple some months ago. We thought it would be nice to spend our day at Kennett Square and experience the dining options. I am not angry with verbena I just feel disappointed because our expectations were higher. The 2 bells from Craig LaBan prepare you for a good food experience. Our experience wasn't bad, it was just average. The farm to table only takes you that far. While the technique is certainly not missing, we didnt find any profound flavors that would force us to crave the food there or to convince us to go to Kennett just for the food. The place is also relative expensive compared to fine dining in Philly.

Truly an amazing meal!Four of us had dinner here and opted for the 6 Course Tasting Menu. This is the right choice - trust me. It is pricey, but for a meal this mind blowing, it is absolutely worth it.Staff was friendly and provided us with an outstanding evening.Chef was a Gandalf the Grey class kitchen magician. Each course was perfectly flavored, seasoned and presented. We all agreed that that these table-specific dishes were 10/10 - every one.We will be back, and cannot wait to try your next ideas.I do not remember the names, but here is what we were served - photo captions

Chef Scott knocks it out of the park EVERY time. And this is coming from someone who - although not extremely picky - IS a bit picky. I’ll be honest and say that I’ve experienced multiple things on the menu that - based on the description - I probably wouldn’t have ordered in a regular restaurant - but when I got it was blown away by how delicious it was. It is absolutely worth EVERY penny, every time. And the portions are actually very generous too! If you like amazing food and are visiting Kennett Square, do yourself a favor and book yourself a table here.

We ate here Friday and at Portabello's on Saturday. Honestly, we loved Verbena. We liked the other place but Verbena is a lovely small intimate location with exquisite food.

Top notch restaurant for a gastronomic odyssey with Chef Scott. I had the 6 course menu and each plate was carefully crafted to tell a story, the story of their maker, the journey of the ingredients and the story of love. (You probably want to share this experience with those you love)The colors on the plates were vibrant, fresh and tantalizing, and every bites came with a measured proportion of flavors creating a perfect symphony on my palette. I came with my own wine as recommended, the server took pride and joy in executing the service of food and the pouring of wine.By the time dinner was done, three different tables joined in a conversation for vacation recommendations, other food experiences and business ideas. It was magical to see the love across gender, race and social /professional status. That's what good food does to people, we get back to our innermost desire, unadulterated, innocent and carefree desire to relate to other human beings.Lastly You don't come to Verbena BYOB to see if it lives up to your expectations, You come here for an upward calibration of your expectations..Indulge yourself, you are worthy of it all.

My husband and I celebrated his birthday at Verbena last night, and it was the best meal out we have had in years. Each course was simply delicious! The spring salad included pickled carrots, green beans and beets which provided great textures and taste. The striped bass was cooked perfectly, and the carrot ginger sauce on the seared duck breast was a delicious and welcome change from typical sweet sauces. The Rib eye was tender and cooked to perfection. I was so full that I contemplated taking the dessert home, but after one bite of the lemon curd tart, that was not going to happen. Service was attentive and gracious. We’ll be back very soon! Kudos to Chef Scott - we’re fortunate to have you in KS.

Chef Scott Morozin cares, full stop. Verbena BYOB is outstanding, full stop. But I'll elaborate. Chef cares about creating an experience. He cares about locally sourcing ingredients so you have the most fresh and seasonal sensations. He cares about creativity, quality, consistency, and a highest standard of execution. He cares that you are well fed, well cared for, and, well, appreciated as a patron. He connects - with his menu, with his house, with the community, and with you as soon as you walk in the door at Verbena. So what are you waiting for. Go. Eat. Enjoy. And bring a damn good red.
