We were a party of 7 to celebrate a 68th wedding anniversary. The owners are very friendly and gracious and fun to talk to. The food was outstanding - we were stationed in Germany and are always looking for a good German restaurant with authentic food. We finally found it! Everyone enjoyed their meal, especially the rouladen, schnitzels, & wurst platters. The borscht and the cream of onion soups were delicious. Highly recommend!

Been trying to call multiple times for reservations and do not get any answer.

Great food and a great dinning experience! Loaded with antiques all around you and upstairs. The host's were very friendly and entertaining. The building has a rich history going back to the 1870's and with a story about the Devil's Swamp behind the building. I loved this place and the food. Call for reservations as seating is limited.

Had a uniquely lovely dinner here this weekend with another couple - we’ve been trying to get here to experience genuine German cooking and we were delighted. The Kassler Rippchen was perfectly prepared and we all enjoyed our entrees. The plus was the enormously generous personalities of our hosts - I could feel the German hospitality was well placed here. Reservations are expected so book in advance. Will definitely cone back again!

The entire evening was incredible. The authentic German food reminded me of grandma’s. The owners are welcoming and make you feel at home. Not to mention 2 floors of antique gems. I’m sorry we didn’t discover this sooner but certainly will be back.

Very good German food. BBQ available in season too. Service is good. For better or worse kind of like eating at someone's home as you will have interactions with the chef(owner) and the waiter/BBQgrillmaster (owner). Very friendly. A little slow, so make sure you have plenty of time (at least 90 minutes). Capacity is only 25(?) so definitely call ahead. An added touch to this restaurant is that it is also an antique shop with lots and lots of stuff on every wall and any nook and cranny available. Don't miss the upstairs. Did I mention lots of stuff? Some of it is even pretty cool.

I popped in before food service began so I can’t review a meal, but the antiques and Knick knacks were worth stopping in for. The owner welcomed us in to chat and look around. Will definitely make a reservation for a meal next time.

If you’re looking for a unique and comforting dining experience, Der Jaeger is SO worth the trip! It is unpretentious, cozy, and it felt like being invited to a good friend’s house for dinner.

We got started with the most delicious bread basket (the pretzel bread was insanely fluffy and I went to bed dreaming about it). While your food is being prepared, you can walk around the restaurant since it doubles as an antique shop! There’s even an upstairs area with SO many cool finds (unique prints, patterned Tiffany lamps, and the interesting character or sports-themed knick-knack) so you can peruse while you wait for your food.

For our dinner, we got some side dishes for the table to share: the spätzle is perfectly chewy and buttery, topped with a crunchy breadcrumb. Also sprinkled with those toasty lil breadcrumbs are the potato dumplings, fluffy and soft on the inside. Personally, my fav side dish was the cucumber salad, which was acidic and bright with the help of some finely chopped red onion and lots of fresh dill. For dinner, I got the Kassler Rippchen (smoked pork chop) and not only was it massive, but juicy and flavorful without being overly salty. I tried my fiancé’s pork schnitzel and it was also so comforting, crispy, and delish (and of course, you gotta order it “a la holstein” so that it comes with the gorgeous drippy egg). Finally, I sampled my mother-in-law’s Chicken Paprikash which had a creamy, rich paprika-flavored gravy over chunks of tender chicken.

We of course had to get tea and coffee (they even made us decaf!) to have some dessert. The Black Forest cake was a generous slab, served with whipped cream and ice cream. I didn’t try the apple turnover, but it came with the same “sides” (and according to the table folks, was really really good).

Some other notes: make a reservation because it is a cozy place and seating may be limited! Also: it is BYOB so bring that bottle of wine (or some German beers) to enjoy with your meal.

I’ve never had a meal quite like this, so it is worth making the trip if you are in the pocono region! The food is clearly made with love, and the best is that you’re eating it in an eclectic lil time capsule.
