Umai Japanese Restaurant

Food was ok. Not bad, just not great either. Way overpriced for what it was. For those prices I expect a higher level of quality. Service was very good and we were served quickly.

Called in a takeout order. Ordered a Kani salad, white tuna, salmon, and tuna sashimi. The Kani salad is was not a the typical…. Spring mix and some imitation crab….. barely any…. Not the typical imitation crab and cucumber and spicy mayo mix…. And not worth the 8 bucks. Sashimi was good, tuna was marked MP, which I thought would be 12 dollars since the salmon and white tuna were both $9…. 16 for two pieces…. Fried bananas as a complement…. But not a traditional Kani if that’s what you are craving!

Excellent. A little gem tucked into a shopping area. The specialty rolls were delicious and the roulette roll was highly fun for those that like spicy.

Best sushi around.

Some of the best sushi that I have eaten. Sat at the bar and chatted with the owner. He explained the freshness of the fish and where it came from. They specialize in adding heat to some of their rolls. Excellent thought and very ingenious. Great presentation for the two rolls I ordered and the wasabi was equally as good. It is a BYOB restaurant. There is a wine and spirits store close by - Fine Wine and Good Spirits, which also carries saki. Would definitely return next time I'm in Lansdale.

We had various sushi and roll dinners and found everything to be very tasty. The workers were notably very friendly to us and everyone else coming in the restaurant. The place is cozy with an interesting vibe.

Always my best and the first choice of VIP guest. You may feel how good quality of fish they got supply and make the best taste is. Family owned and cozy. Please simply order "Omakase" course at special day. Then the shelf will surprise you.

This was some of the most delicious sushi I've ever had. Service was attentive. The complimentary fried Oreos for dessert put a nice ending to the meal.

The fish here did not taste fresh (tuna specifically, I literally spit it out). I got the Chirashi, and it had huge chunks of fish and overcooked rice. I paid the full amount ($39) for almost untouched food (except for a piece of tuna). Avoid, if you can.

Amazing quality food. Each dish has great balance, texture, and flavor. The sushi was so fresh. We were surprised that the sashimi platter had mackerel sashimi, which is a rarity due to the difficulty of keeping it fresh. Love the chefs here and the servers too. Would definitely go out of my way to come here again.

It’s been awhile since I’ve been to Umai due to not working in the area as often; however I was happy to see that it is the same excellent Sushi restaurant that I remember. Food was excellent, Service was excellent and its a wonderful positive atmosphere. Thanks for a great lunch! Love this place!

Chef Rae has the best sushi anywhere. If anybody’s looking for great sushi, I highly recommend Umai in Lansdale.
