Ive been here twice. First time the food was very good and they had a blueberry beer that was fantastic. Second time I was in town I went right back and the food was good but my whole dinner was overshadowed by the fact that I had to sit at the bar and listen to the large bearded man brag to all the other employees about how much he loved turning away large parties and families if they tried to sit down and eat with someone under 21....they do not have signs anywhere stating the no one under 21 rule and he turned away a party of 6 and a party of 8, loudly within 15 minutes of each other while the place was empty. It was a very bizzare experience, he was quite rude, and because of that I do not think I will be back. If the large bearded man is not the owner, I suggest the owners fire him. The large bearded man is bad for business.

I came to the area for work and I just had a really terrible day at work. HEATHER the waitress literally made it all go away. She saw how uncomfortable I was by myself and I requested to sit outside! She complimented me and instantly made my day. I didn’t get her name so I had to call and ask! I was there no more than 30 minute but I’ve never gotten a great service in this area like that AND SHE WAS TRAINING a staff at that. This was the only highlight of my day and I just want to make sure she gets the appreciation she deserves 🙂

We stopped at Broken Axe on our way to State College. Glad we did! Fried chicken sandwich, mac & cheese, Caesar wrap, fries, all excellent. We visited on a Wednesday night and it felt like a weekend. The vibe was lively but very chill. Our servers were attentive and everything came out quick and hot. The beer selection was better than some places twice as big. Really great hidden gem.

Great bar. Wide selection of beers. Have eaten several menu items and all were good. Staff are friendly and helpful. Any time we visit Lock Haven and Bald Eagle we make sure to go to the Broken Axe.

Long day on the road. Found this great pub near our hotel. Food was great! Service was great! If you ever stop in Lock Haven you should check this place out. 27 beers on tap and very reasonably priced!!!

I travel a lot for work, 2 weeks every month spent going to every small little industrial town throughout the US, Canada, and sometimes South American and lots of various countries in Europe. In the USA, good beer selections are hard to find. (Sorry not sorry) Broken Axe is for all the true beer people looking for an actual selection of world beers and domestic breweries that put out real worldly beer menus. Clearly borne of a European diaspora (im guessing German/Austrian based on the steins with regulars names on them placed around the bar), this is a place with roots and pedigree. And on top of that - the food is fantastic. If you find yourself in Lock Haven, go here.
The staff is always friendly and welcoming and there’s not a thing on the menu I’ve tried and didn’t like. Great selection of beers with several taps, and cocktails and wine to cater to all tastes.
