A really delightful place to take a date, it's got the old fashioned charm and some of its own history is framed so you can read about it.

It looks like Eckels hasn't been open since covid, but you can still peer in the windows and see the cool old soda fountain shop. My grandma used to get sodas here in the late 1930s and early 40s when she was done working at the beauty parlor. I hope the owner is able to sell to someone who maintains it as it is, or they hire someone to manage it. A shame to have such a beautiful piece of Mechanicsburg history sitting closed for so long. But it's wonderful that it's been preserved. I wish the owners would update their hours on the website because they are not accurate and it looks like others (like me) have shown up expecting to dine here. To the owners - I'm a web designer and would be happy to help you update your site. Just Google my name and you'll find my website.

I really wanted to visit this ice cream shop because it was a filming location for Girl, Interrupted but it wasn’t open. Really disappointed, me and my fiancé planned this trip a month ago and we based our visit on the hours of operation listed on the website. It said they opened at 11:30am on a Friday but when we arrived it was closed. We waited for a half hour and nothing. Tried to call and just got send to voicemail. I understand that staffing issues create odd hours but please update the real hours of operation so people who are traveling can actually visit!

This store is not 'temporarily closed', it's permanently closed. When the owner died a couple of years ago, his wife decided not to re-open. The shop has not been open since I moved to Mechanicsburg two and half years ago.

Is this place closed permanently? I'm here at a time they listed themselves as open on their website and they're closed.

Bought a coupon too. Says closed for covid on site but will open. Now its something else. When December? I feel scammed too.

This place is an absolute scam. I purchased a “Buy $30 for $15” coupon/certificate that is worthless because this place is never open. It says temporarily closed now but it didn’t 8 months ago when I bought two of these coupons. They are never open! Don’t waste your time driving by, trust me, they’re closed. They are still selling these gift certificates to steal your money that you can’t spend.

A visit to Eckels is like taking a step back in time, and that's GOOD. The food is homemade, tastes yummy, and is very reasonably prices. Delicious Hershey's ice cream is also available in old soda fountain dishes. There is also the option to buy candy out of jars (think the old fashioned penny candy). The owners and staff are kind, helpful and genuine. So much fun. A true delight and my kids love it too!

After moving to the Cumberland Valley from Detroit last December, my wife and I have been traveling the Cumberland Valley Ice Cream Trail and Eckels was next on the list. This is one of the best ones yet!We didn't know until we got there that they serve meals as well as ice cream. But we just came from lunch, so we stuck with their ice cream. We started by having a very pleasant conversation with the person working there (an Army vet!). Then we placed our order and had a seat. A brief moment later, our sundaes were brought to us. I had a chocolate sundae and it was excellent! This is a neat little place with very good ice cream. We will certainly be coming back here!
