It looks like Eckels hasn't been open since covid, but you can still peer in the windows and see the cool old soda fountain shop. My grandma used to get sodas here in the late 1930s and early 40s when she was done working at the beauty parlor. I hope the owner is able to sell to someone who maintains it as it is, or they hire someone to manage it. A shame to have such a beautiful piece of Mechanicsburg history sitting closed for so long. A visit to Eckels is like taking a step back in time, and that's GOOD. The food is homemade, tastes yummy, and is very reasonably prices. Delicious Hershey's ice cream is also available in old soda fountain dishes. There is also the option to buy candy out of jars (think the old fashioned penny candy). The owners and staff are kind, helpful and genuine. So much fun. A true delight and my kids love it too!
After moving to the Cumberland Valley from Detroit last December, my wife and I have been traveling the Cumberland Valley Ice Cream Trail and Eckels was next on the list.
