Fantastic sourdough breads in a variety of flavors baked fresh each week. And all are delicious - my favorites are EverydaySandwich, CarawayRye, Prairie, Cranberry Orange, and Sesame Cheddar. They keep well both on the countertop and in my freezer at home. Extremely important for me is that not a sprinkle of commercial yeast used in any bread product - it’s truly all natural sourdough bread. The husband and wife team who own and run McGrath’s are so kind and helpful too. McGrath’s Bakehouse is an amazing gem. Ordering MUST be done online for pickup on Wed and Fri afternoons.

As a new customer I got their original sourdough. It has a very crispy crust. Their customer service is top notch and the owner was able to answer my questions and did their best to point me in the directions I needed. This makes a fantastic french toast BTW (I use buttermilk and bake mine) Will shop again.

After a friend raved about the loaves he’d picked up at McGrath’s, I decided to give it a go and place an order. I was especially pleased to see that I could pick up at the bake shop itself, which is about seven miles from my house. I placed my order Friday for a Wednesday pick up. As fate would have it, that was the Wednesday of the massive December snowstorm.Almost as soon as the expected snowfall totals were posted, the bakery sent out communication that let us know they were making contingency plans for pick up, including earlier times on Wednesday and even Thursday for those who couldn’t make it. By Tuesday, those times were solidified, again with an email communication; Wednesday morning, they sent a follow up to let us all know we could pick up our orders even earlier. For a timid snow driver like me, that was a godsend. I applaud their willingness to go out of their way to make it easier on all of us who placed orders. That was truly customer service.But wait! There’s more! The bread itself was fabulous! We ordered a loaf of Pfeffernüsse and a loaf of cranberry walnut. They were fresh out of the oven when we got there at 9:30, and we sliced off chunks of the former to accompany our lunch. What a uniquely flavoured bread! Peppery, nutty and sweet (as the German name implies), it was a real treat. The latter, a combination we’ve always loved anyway, was almost like a dessert bread. We loved both so much that we placed an order immediately for the following week, this time the Irish oatmeal and the Parmesan rosemary.They’re gone. We’ve devoured them.

Best kept secret in the area! They make amazing and authentic sourdough breads in a nice variety too. Right now you order ahead online and pick it up on Fridays and Wednesdays. Highly recommend. I hope they get a storefront someday. Definitely the best bread you can buy in central PA

I've had their brick oven bread before, but the Dill Onion this spring is my new favorite! Other favorites include Everything bread, orange cranberry, and jalapeño cheddar. Try the parses an olive herb, too! I love that I can pay online and pick up in Palmyra!
